The funeral for Leland Elmer Eddy will be at 11:00 AM Saturday November 20th at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, with Rev. Vern Christopherson officiating. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery in Harmony, Minnesota. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
Mr. Eddy, 91 of Rochester died Wednesday morning at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.
Leland was born August 7, 1919 in Chatfield, Minnesota to Elmer and Agnes Eddy. On October 12, 1940 he married Evelyn Mae Johnson at Lanesboro, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived in Harmony, MN. In 1952 they moved to Rochester and had lived there since. Mrs. Eddy died January 20, 2009 at home. The couple had been married 68 years.
Leland was a retired AMPI employee and worked as a courtesy driver and in the parts department for Adamson Motors.
Survivors include his daughter Sharon L. (Butch Kazos) Kimball of Rochester and grandchildren Michael Kimball, Daniel (Athena) Kimball, Patrick (Zenaida) Kimball, Joseph Kimball, and Brigh Marie (Christopher) Parker; great-grandchildren Matthew, Mitchell, Kayla, Jamin, Leah, Baxter, and Olivia; a brother, Luverne (Kathleen) Eddy of Rochester; sisters-in-law, Elaine Michel of Harmony and Shirley (Thomas) Petri of Owatonna.
Leland served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the 28th Infantry Regiment 109th Infantry Division which was called “The Bloody Bucket.” He fought in the Huertgen Forrest and also the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart. He was a runner and laid telephone cable ahead of troops. After serving, he worked for Peterson Brothers in Harmony.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn, one brother, Norman and one sister Eleanor Ferguson.
Leland loved fishing, hunting and coin collecting. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and trips to Branson, MO as well as coffee with the boys at Hy-Vee.
