Christine A. Herrera

Chris Herrera, born Christine Ann Hoban, in July 1972, was the daughter of Dan and Cindy Hoban and the middle sister of Becky (Brett) Greseth and Debby (Gregg) Houdek.  She departed this earthly life too soon on Wednesday, December 14th, 2022, at the age of 50. Our beloved Chris was a mother, sister, aunt, and friend to so many.  Chris was an integral member of an amazing fun and loving family who will so dearly miss her beautiful smile and easy-going nature and big hugs.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in marketing from University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire Wisconsin, she married Darrin. They moved from Eau Claire to Rochester in 1997. This is where she began her career in multiple professional jobs in finance, banking, marketing but her favorite was her role as owner and operator of ‘Chris’s daycare’ in SE Rochester.  It was there she cared for her own children and the kids of many of her friends, family, and neighbors.   She cared for all the children as if they were her own.  Chris was most recently employed by IBM in Rochester before being part of the spin off to Kyndryl Corporation. Chris was a business analyst in a global environment.  She loved her boss, and all her co-workers from all over the world.  She was always a dedicated, caring, and enthusiastic hard worker.

In 2020, Chris was diagnosed with lung cancer.  She battled her cancer and made a full recovery in a short time.  In November this year Chris was diagnosed with cancer in her brain which took her in just a few short weeks.   Chris eventually spent 2 weeks in the hospital before she passed peacefully holding her son and husband’s hands.  Before she left us, she spent time listening to all of her family and friends say goodbye and when she was ready, she gracefully passed in peace.

Throughout Chris’s life there were many constants.  Her family (parents, sisters, aunts’ uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews) and friends meant everything to her.  Everything.  Chris was so proud of her boys.  She could not love them anymore then she did. Her faith and optimism in them was never ending.  Chris was a camper; she was happiest when sitting around the campfire and visiting and telling stories. She would always make everyone’s favorite snacks at the campground and was happiest when others were having fun.  She loved to laugh and play, and her smile was infectious.  Chris was a leader for the Boy Scouts, where she helped prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath.  Finally, Chris was a devoted wife.  She loved her husband and was his constant companion.  She meant the world to him and without her he will never be the same.

Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2022 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with visitation starting at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Darrin and Family, I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of your beautiful wife and mother.   I enjoyed running into her in the hallways of IBM.  Blessed be her memory.

Our hearts go out to you and all who knew and loved your sister, Becky! Thinking you!!!

Darrin & Hererra family, I am so sorry for your loss. Christine was a beautiful person and did not deserve to be taken so soon. May she sleep in peace, and please accept my condolences. I will keep you and the family in my prayers.

To Darrin, Alex and Lucas we give you all our love.  We will always treasure the times we had on Spruce Meadows, having Viking game days and other gatherings.  Your Wife and Mom was a very special person, I know you know that but it needs to be said and often.  Please know that we have you all in our hearts.  Lauri and Pat
