Bette Ann Fenske

The memorial Mass for Bette Ann Fenske will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the Rev. Donald J. Schmitz officiating.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

Bette Fenske, 91,  passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.  She was born Bette Ann Schurhammer on March 2, 1919 in Wabasha, Minnesota.  She married Durward Fenske in June of 1940 in Wabasha, and the couple moved to Rochester that same year.  Mr. Fenske passed away in 1979.  Bette lived with her daughter Carole, for the past 16 years.

Bette was a beauty operator.  Her husband was a retired salesman and farmer at the time of his death.

She is survived by one daughter, Carole (Robert) Miner of Rochester, four grandchildren, Michael (Becky) Macken, Molly (Mark) Williamson, Martha (Brian) Elliott, Nicholas (Missy, recently deceased) Miner and seven great-grandchildren, Michael Williamson, Emily Williamson, Brian Williamson, Samantha Macken, Josef Macken, Sydney Elliott, Taylor Elliott and  one brother, David Schurhammer of Minneapolis.  She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, William Schurhammer and Richard Schurhammer.

Bette was a duplicate tournament bridge player and achieved  life master status.  She enjoyed gardening, watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.  She loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports (hockey, basketball, tennis, football, softball, soccer, baseball and track.)  She spent summers at the family cabin in Wabasha where she enjoyed boating, swimming and fishing.

Friends may call Friday, November 5, 2010 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
