Mary L. Humke

On Saturday, November 22nd, 2025, Mary Loris Humke passed away at the St. Marys Hospital Campus, surrounded by her family.

Mary was born on March 1st, 1929 in Taylor County, Wisconsin, in the town of Redville, to Wilbur A. and Velma H. Stewart (nee Looker). She grew up living above her family’s general store, an experience that left an indelible impression on her. Many times, throughout her life, she would share memories of that influence as it applied to current events.

Upon Mary’s completion of college, having attended Stevens Point, UW Eau Claire and finishing at UW Lacross, obtaining her Bachelors Degree in Education, she taught at Green wood Elementary School in Greenwood, Wisconsin.

Mary was united in marriage to the love of her life, Everett D. Humke, on August 5th, 1949 in a double ceremony with her sister and brother-in-law, a marriage that lasted 65 years.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Shelly Glover (Jon), Christie Paulson (Rick), grand children, Grace (Oliver) Books and Eli Glover as well as step-granddaughters, Alana (Mat thew) Moran and Brenna Paulson. Mary was also step-great-grandmother to Ryan, Nicholas and Benjamin Moran and Nora Paulson.

Mary remained an enthusiastic advocate of education throughout her entire life. Both she and Everett were involved in many community continued education programs well into their retirement.

A service and interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be directed to Channel One Food Bank or Christ United Methodist Church.

Chris and Shelly-

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom’s passing. Your folks were great friends of my folks, with many good times and memories. She lived a great life to 96. Your mom (and dad) were always so kind and compassionate to my parents as they aged.
Great memories with our summers in Alex and you guys across the bay on the lake.
You’re in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time 🙏 happy thoughts to know she is reunited with your dad.

Renee

Dear Shelly and Kris, your mom was a good friend and the best neighbor you could ask for! I will dearly miss her and all the talks we had. Her and Everett were very special! Love, Kathy

Christi, Shelly and family,

I’m so sorry to hear about your mom’s passing. I will always have wonderful memories of our times at Browning’s cabin and Alexandria with the gang and the old neighborhood.

I know Mary will be missed by many.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Kim
