Patrick Lee Macken

Patrick “Pat” Macken, 84, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, surrounded by family.

Pat was born on May 2, 1941, in Rochester to Harold and Janice (Pinkham) Macken. He graduated from Rochester High School and, on September 5, 1959, married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Kay Renaux, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester. They shared 63 wonderful years together before Sharon’s passing in 2022.

Pat spent over 40 years at IBM, where he held various roles and formed many lasting friendships. Known for his dedication and steady work ethic, Pat took great pride in his career and the relationships he built there.

Outside of work, Pat was deeply committed to his family and community. He coached numerous teams for his son and granddaughter, always finding joy in helping young athletes grow. Whether it was a band concert, play, or game, Pat could always be found in the crowd, smiling, cheering, and celebrating the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Pat loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed staying active in his community. He especially found joy in walking around his neighborhood, always ready to stop and chat with anyone who was out and about. Pat’s friendly nature and love of conversation meant he never stayed a stranger to anyone for long. Whether in line at the store, at an event, or simply on his daily walk, he could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel like an old friend.

Pat’s life was marked by kindness, loyalty, and laughter. His steady presence and generous spirit will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the stories, smiles, and hearts of all who loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Patti (Edward) Stanton, and son, Mark (Carrie) Macken, all of Rochester; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Will) Stanton, Jordan (Amber) Stanton, and Kelsey Macken; his late grandson Eddie Stanton’s wife, Alicia; and eleven great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy. He is also remembered fondly by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews, all of whom loved him dearly.

Pat was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, his parents, brother Mick Macken, sister Susan Starkson, and grandson Eddie Stanton.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Madonna Meadows for the loving care, kindness, and compassion they showed Pat in his final months.

A Memorial Gathering for Pat will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery Rochester at a later date.
