Allene “Allie” Shipman

Allie was born on September 9, 1935, in Endicott, New York, to Donovan Champ McCarty and Mildred Jane (Clark) McCarty. On May 4, 1957, she married Richard Shipman in Endicott. Shortly after their wedding, the couple moved to Rochester, Minnesota, where Richard was transferred by IBM to the new Rochester facility.

Allie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose greatest joys came from her family and her faith. She was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester and remained deeply committed to her spiritual life throughout her years.

She had many interests that brought her happiness: shopping, reading, crossword puzzles, and bowling in her younger years. She loved listening to the Italian tenor group IL VOLO and was an enthusiastic fan of both the Minnesota Twins and her hometown minor league baseball team, the Binghamton Triplets. A lifelong cat lover, Allie welcomed many feline companions into her home over the years.

Allie is survived by her children: Richard Jr. (Debra) of Spooner, WI; Nancy (Greg) Timp of Rochester, MN; Jim (Carol) of Byron, MN; and Kathy (Jeff) Kyllo of Marion Township, MN. She is also survived by her sister, Janet Chaffee of Tunkhannock, PA; her brother, Donovan McCarty of Endicott, NY; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard; her brother, Joel McCarty; and a great-grandson, Ben Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.

Memorials are preferred to Samaritan Bethany in Rochester, Christ United Methodist Church, or to the donor’s choice.

Condolences

The family of Allene “Allie” Shipman has received the following condolences.

To the whole family, I’m so sorry to hear about Allene!! She is with my beautiful Joel and her husband. William and I are thinking of you all! Much love and peace!!

Dear Kathy and family,

I am one of your Mother's  MN IL VOLO fan friends.  I am truly so sorry for your loss. We spent many great times together traveling to IL VOLO concerts and IL VOLO parties with the rest of our MN fan group. She was pure joy to be around. You could tell her family meant the world to her. She spoke so lovingly of ALL of you.

I visited with her last year at Bethany where we chatted at length about IL VOLO and her favorite, Ignacio. It was so sweet to see how she carried a torch for him all those years!  That's one of the many things I loved about your Mom. She was genuine, honest, fun loving, had great taste in music, and always looked on the bright side.  I will miss her.

You are in my heart and prayers,

Jane Ceminsky
