Thomas Brian (Tom) Ferguson, 83, of Rochester, MN, died Monday, June 9, 2025, at home.
Tom was born May 9, 1942, in Rochester, MN to Allan and Mary Stella (Miller) Ferguson. He graduated from Lourdes High School and on July 24, 1965, he married Linda Watson in Rochester, MN after having met on a blind date. They began their married life in Mankato, MN while Tom completed his bachelor’s degree in accounting at Mankato State College, graduating in 1966.
Tom and Linda lived most of their married life in Rochester, MN with short periods of time in Marshall, MN and Prior Lake, MN for career opportunities.
Tom was a licensed CPA with a career spanning over 30 years in multiple firms including Broker Hendrickson & Co, CPA’s, Roberg G. Engelhart, CPA’s, Smith Schafer & Associates, CPA’s (Partner), Coffman Nehring Christopherson & Ferguson, CPA’s (Partner) and Thomas B. Ferguson, CPA (Owner). In addition, Tom was active in professional and community organizations both before and after his retirement. These included Rotary International (President, Rotary II), United Way of Olmsted County (Board Chairman), Minnesota Society of CPA’s (President local chapter), Olmsted County Community Services (Volunteer driver), Rochester Fire Civil Service Commission (Commissioner), Olmsted Community Hospital (Finance committee chairman), Olmsted Medical Center (Public Trustee), Financial Chairman at Resurrection Catholic Church, Gamehaven Boy Scouts (Trustee), National Association of Accountants (Vice President of local chapter) and Hiawathaland, CPAs (President).
Tom loved spending time with Linda and his girls and was a lifelong learner. His interests included golf, golf and more golf! He also enjoyed carpentry projects, computers, mystery novels, travel to visit family, playing cards, listening to classic country music, working to find the bottom of his golf swing, attending the kids’ and grandkids’ sporting activities, trips to the casino with Linda and sharing and learning about family history. Tom built the garages for two of their homes and did extensive work in the building of their lake cabin. Tom and Linda treasured their time at the cabin with their kids, grandkids and furry companions for 30 years. If you knew Tom you know that he loved tinkering with anything that had, or he thought should have, a motor.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Linda, and his daughters, Sarah Ward (Todd), Jennifer Ferguson, both of Rochester, MN, Amy Ferguson of Grove City, OH, Jayne Shumaker (Nick) of Fort Collins, CO and Kathryn Glenn (Josh) of LaPorte, CO; 12 grandchildren: Rachel (Rick) Sargent, Jacob (Samantha) Hanson, Matthew Ward, Kyle Schmitt, Ryan Schmitt, Rebecca Ward, Jackson Shumaker, Kina Ferguson, Sophia Shumaker, Nell Ferguson, Avonelle Glenn and Eli Glenn; 2 great-grandchildren: Harper and Caden. Tom is also survived by his brother, Bill Ferguson (Barb), sisters-in-law, Joyce Ferguson and Mary Watson, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Virgina Ferguson and brother David Ferguson.
The funeral service for Tom will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.
Rest in peace, Dad. We know you’re already scheduling your next golf tee time in heaven!

I was very sorry to hear about Tom. I had the pleasure of working with Tom for many years. He was a great boss and wonderful person. I know how much he loved you all by the way his face would light up whenever he talked about any of you. I hope you hold your memories of him close and know as much as you will miss his physical presence, he will be with you always. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.

When he and the family would visit in Iowa in the summer, he and I played pretty competitive one-on-one basketball matches! Rest in peace.
