Betty E. Welp

Elizabeth “Betty” Welp, 95 of Rochester, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2025 at The Mayo Clinic, Methodist Campus.

Betty was born May 22, 1929 in Fairmont, MN to Albert and Anna (Janssen) Studer. Betty was a graduate of Welcome High School. On September 30, 1948, she was united in marriage to Philip Welp in Sherburne, MN. Betty and Phil were blessed with five children. Betty stayed at home raising her family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and was an avid reader. In her younger years, she volunteered as a Pink Lady and attended Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church. Betty also enjoyed spending time in Arizona during the winter months. She had a real sweet tooth and loved chocolate, especially her Klondike bars and Dr. Pepper.

She was strong willed and very independent but was also a devoted and faithful woman.

She is survived by her children, Thomas (Midge) Welp of Rochester, Dave (Kate) Welp of Rochester, Shirley (Jack) Lee of Lynden, WA; son-in-law, Mike Zelinski of Rochester and daughter-in-law, Debbie Welp of Rochester. Betty is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian (Carina) Welp, Kevin Welp, Andrew (Katie) Welp, Michael (Jacquie) Meyers, Ryan (Lesa) Welp, Eme (Justin) Olson, Derek Zelinski, Maya (Logan) Harvey, Logan (Tory) Lee and Evan (Darcy) Lee; great-grandchildren, Sage, Julia, Jacob, Kaylee, Owen, Finn, Mileigh, Gracyn, Devon, Addison, Ethan, Ryder, Austyn, Keegan, Brynne and McKenna; and her sisters, Dolores Wickert and Mary Richie. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Phil; daughter, Patty Zelinski; son Robert Welp and by her parents, Albert and Anna.

Burial will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery, Rochester.
