Larry W. Schatte
Larry Wayne Schatte, 74, of Stacyville, IA died Saturday, April 5, 2025 at St. Mary’s Hospital.
He was born February 5, 1951 to Albert Henry and Maedell Rose (Eggemeyer) Schatte.
Graduated from Trico High School in Campbell Hill, IL in 1969. He then enlisted in the Air Force and spent the next nine years serving his country. He loved to tell others about his job packing parachutes for his fellow soldiers and all the places he was stationed at. After his honorable discharge, he spent the rest of his career working for the Federal Prison System. He retired as a Correctional Counselor at the Federal Medical Center in Rochester, MN in 2002. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and a member of Mona Lutheran Church. In his later years he loved golfing with his buddies, traveling with his wife, Ramona and going on trips with their friends in their side by side four wheeling. Larry also enjoyed mowing for his local church and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Larry married Ramona K. Olson Wynia on December 5, 1987, in Rochester, MN. Through their union he gained two stepsons, Scott and Alvin Wynia, and together Ramona and Larry had one daughter, Amanda.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona K. Wynia-Schatte of Stacyville; daughter, Amanda (Adam) Brown of Hayward, WI, stepsons; Scott (Cassandra) Wynia of McIntire, IA and Alvin Wynia of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Madisyn Brown, Brooklyn Brown, Brylee Wynia, Colton Wynia, Jocelyn Wynia, Owen Wynia, Jack Wynia and Maya Wynia; two brothers, Dennis (Kelly) Schatte of Steeleville, IL and David (Mary Ann) Schatte of Ladson, SC, nephews, James (Staci) Schatte, John (Amanda) Schatte and Ethan (Taylor) Schatte; nieces, Audra Schatte, Hannah (Austin) Angleton, and Emily Schatte, in addition to several sister/brothers in law, many nieces/nephews and several other family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carolyn Kay Schatte, his brother, Allen Schatte and sister-in-law, Cindy Schatte.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Friday May 2, 2025, at Mona Lutheran Church in Mona, IA, followed by a service at 10:30 a.m. with a luncheon to follow the service. The burial will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery – Preston, MN at 3:00 p.m. May 2, 2025 for anyone who would like to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cancer Research and Care at Mayo Clinic
