Richard “Dick” Goetzman

Richard K. Goetzman- Rochester
Richard “Dick” Kenneth Goetzman, 88, of Rochester, Minnesota, died Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Arbor
Terrace Assisted Living.
Dick was born December 21, 1936, in Winona, Minnesota, to Kenneth and Adeline Goetzman. He
graduated from Winona Cotter High School in 1954. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. On May 5, 1962,
Dick married Sylvia D. Kotowski in Denver, Colorado. The couple had four children, and lived in
numerous places before settling in Rochester in 1975.
Dick received a B.S. from Winona State University and went on to receive a Ph.D. in social change with
an emphasis on education. He taught high school speech, drama, English and philosophy, and directed
many high school plays. Dick was the owner and operator of his own United Rent-All Store in West St.
Paul, was an assistant manager at Warner Hardware in West St. Paul and then moved to Rochester and
worked at Kruse Lumber. He then became an Education Coordinator at St. Mary’s Hospital. In 1980, Dick
started his own business, Professional Resource Center, in which he was a speaker/trainer for schools,
businesses, organizations and colleges in high-speed efficient reading, self-image and esteem, in creative
thinking and problem solving. Dick finished his career as the parish administrator at Holy Spirit Church,
retiring in 2007.
Dick was a volunteer reader on the Radio Talking Book Network, a member of the National Speakers
Association, sang with the Rochester Barbershop Chorus, and was a founder and charter member of the
Rochester Radio Theatre Guild. He was an avid photographer, a collector of beer cans and memorabilia,
and a diehard Green Bay Packer fan. Dick was known for his acerbic wit and sense of humor.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, in 2017, after 55 years of marriage. Survivors include his
children, Kayla Goetzman of Rochester, Keith (Amy) Goetzman of St. Paul, Karen (Mark) Jeanson of
Rochester, and Kathy (Nick) Jarosinski of Pine Island; seven grandchildren, Emma, Sarah, Joe, Alec,
Everett, Wyatt and Scarlett; and great-granddaughter, Sophie Silver.
The family extends special thanks to the caring staff of Arbor Terrace Assisted Living and Mayo Clinic
Hospice for their compassionate care.
The funeral will be held Friday, May 16, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with visitation at 10 a.m. and
service at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow. Macken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Condolences

The family of Richard “Dick” Goetzman has received the following condolences.

My deepest condolences to the Goetzman family!  May happier family memories bring you all comfort in time.

Kayla, Keith, Karen and Kathy, our hearts go out to you on the death of your wonderful dad. He and I shared family notes as we worked on the Eischen family tree. We had so much fun with him and your mom playing penny ante poker and just having fun conversations in past years. Many happy memories and I know you have many of your own to share with each other and to help in celebrating his life. Love and prayers to all of you. May he rest in God's peace alongside your beautiful mom, Silver.
