Gerald Lewis Ganun

Gerald Lewis Ganun of Rochester, Minnesota, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 19, 2025.

Gerald was born on January 6, 1931, to Raymond and Evelyn Ganun in Blissfield, Michigan.   He graduated with honors from Blissfield High School in 1948.  Gerald farmed with his father in rural Blissfield and worked at Tecumseh Products.  He met his future wife, Mariam, through their sisters and went on to marry on October 27, 1951.  They settled in rural Blissfield and had three daughters (Gwendolyn, Gail, and Gay) and one son (Vail).  In 1969, the couple moved to rural Dover, Minnesota, where they farmed until 1981.  At that time, they moved to rural Rochester, Minnesota, and ran a dairy farm.  He subsequently went on to drive semi for Transport Designs, Inc. from which he retired in 2014.  Gerald and Mariam loved to square dance, and they were long-time members of the Whitewater Whirlers Square Dance Club.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mariam; his parents; one sister (Betty Koppelman); son, Vail Ganun; and grandson, Brandon Ganun.  He is survived by three daughters, Gwendolyn (Tony) Haddad of Spring Valley, Minnesota, Gail (Jim) Prechel of Owatonna, Minnesota, and Gay (Leslie) Scharpen of Rochester, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his beloved dog, Marley.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2025, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the start of the service on Saturday.  The burial will be at Oakwood East Cemetery in Rochester.

Because of his love for dogs, the family requests memorials to Camp Companion (P.O. Box 7478, Rochester, MN 55903) which is foster care for adoptable pets.

Loved having Gerald as my father in law and living on the farm. He taught me and my kids (his grandkids) a lot about country life. RIP
