Carl E. Huey
Carl Earl Huey, 89, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024 at Stewartville Care Center, where he had been a resident since May.
Carl was born on February 4, 1935 in Rochester to Earl and Estelle (Favre) Huey. He graduated from Lourdes High School and soon thereafter entered the family business, Huey’s Cigar Store, which was located at the corner of South Broadway and 4th Street SE in Rochester. On November 26, 1955, he married Gail Gibbons at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rochester. They were later divorced in 1981. Following the sale of Huey’s Cigar Store, he started his own wholesale vending business, Carl’s Wholesale. He also worked for Keebler and Old Dutch companies and drove for Clements Chevrolet. He loved cars and driving, especially classic cars. He was an avid NASCAR fan and in his spare time he enjoyed driving the North Shore of Minnesota and watching ships, along with trips to the Casino and fishing.
He is survived by his children Teresa (Keith) Vandezande of Stewartville, Elizabeth “Liz” Huey of Rochester, Joseph (Mary) Huey of Surprise, AZ, Sara (Stephen) Kukowski of Pine Island, 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, sisters Mary Lawrence of Hacienda Heights, CA, Kathy (Terry) Smith of Maplewood, MN and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his longtime friend, Carol Johanson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gail Huey (2005), and his sister Joan Noser.
A private graveside service for Carl will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.
A special thank-you is extended to the staff of Stewartville Care Center and Season’s Hospice for the wonderful care Carl received.
