Mary Ann Stettler, 78 of Rochester died November 7, 2024, surrounded by family at St Marys hospital following an unexpected brief illness.
Mary was born January 5, 1946, on the family farm to Alfred and Marie (Petz) Brueske. She moved to Rochester from Plainview at age 7 after her father’s passing. She attended John Marshall High School, graduating in 1964. Mary worked for over 35 years at Mayo Clinic Rochester Methodist Hospital, starting in food service and later moving to an OR circulator. Eventually this position turned into a certified surgical technician. Mary went back to school to earn her degree and graduated from Rochester Community and Technical College in 1993. She retired from Mayo Clinic in 2008.
Mary met David Stettler and they married on October 31, 1964 at St Francis Catholic Church. Together they raised three daughters. Mary loved kidding around and her yearly vacations up north with family. While in Northern Minnesota, she enjoyed the heat, mosquitoes, and snakes. Mary always made sure each family member had their favorite foods at family gatherings. Mary was a long-time member of Resurrection Catholic church in Rochester.
Mary is survived by her three daughters Michelle Grunewald of Chatfield, Patty (Mike) Burke of Plainview, DeAnn (Tom) Kelzer of Grand Meadow; grandchildren Kayla Stettler, Alex Grunewald, Jenny (Jordan) Dorhmann, James Burke, Colton Burke, Emily Kelzer, and Logan Kelzer; Great-Grandchildren Noah Dobson and Mila Dorhmann; brother Otto Brueske and sister Clara Aarsvold, Brother-in-law Michael (Donna) Stettler; sisters-in-law Alice (Marvin) Bronner and Yvonne “Bonnie” Stettler. She was proceeded in death by her husband David Stettler, parents Alfred Brueske, Marie Schroeder, and Emil Schroeder; grandson Owen Kelzer; brothers-in-law David Aarsvold and Gerald Stettler, sisters-in-law Bea Brueske and Elaine Stettler.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Church of the Resurrection. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, in the River Park Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

I am so sorry for your sudden loss of your Mary. She was a favorite person of mine while we worked together at Methodist. I am no longer able to attend visitations/funerals. I am glad I was able to hug her long at your father's service a couple years ago.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Mary when she worked as the FPD at Kwik Trip. She was a lovely person and we had many good conversations over the years. I'm sorry for your loss. She will be missed by many.
