Charlotte De Ette Tibben, 85, of Calmar, Iowa, died on Saturday, March 5th, 2022 at Madonna Towers Senior Living in Rochester, Minnesota.
De Ette was born April 29, 1936 in Audubon, Iowa, to Edward and Grace (Summers) Sjoblom. She graduated from Audubon High School in 1954 and went on to earn her two-year teaching certificate at Buena Vista College. On December 22, 1956, she married Roger Tibben and they made their first home in Atlantic, Iowa, where they started a family and began their respective careers in Education and Banking.
In 1969, they moved across the state to West Union, Iowa after Roger accepted a position as a bank examiner for the state of Iowa. De Ette enrolled in college at Upper Iowa University to get her bachelor’s degree which had become the new education standard for all teachers in Iowa. After earning her diploma, she was hired by the North Fayette County School District in West Union where she would teach 2nd grade students for the remainder of her 35-year teaching career. De Ette and Roger eventually moved to Calmar, Iowa where Roger had accepted a position as an Executive VP at Iowa State bank. De Ette continued to teach in West Union by commuting from Calmar over the final 19 years of her career.
De Ette loved to teach, read, sing, travel, camp, laugh and enjoy fun times with all her friends, but most importantly, she loved to spend time with her children and especially her grandchildren whenever she could.
De Ette is survived by her brother, John and Nancy (Niles) Sjoblom; two sons, Scott (Karen) Tibben of Denison, Iowa, and Steve (De Dee) Tibben, of Rochester, MN; four grandchildren, Landon Tibben, Kaylene Tibben, Logan (Jessica) Tibben, Madison (Justin) Buchholtz, Kelsey (Tom) Frank, and Mackenzie Marzolf; five great-grandchildren, Teddy, Charlie and Henry Frank, and Aria and Lincoln Tibben. De Ette was preceded in death by her husband, Roger.
