Wayne P. Peterson

Wayne Paul Peterson, 76, of Rochester, MN, died Wednesday, February 2, 2022 of natural causes.

Wayne was born October 9, 1945 in Minneota, MN to Arvil and Clarice (Miller) Peterson. On July 19, 1975, he married Sharon M. Cuppy at The American Lutheran Church in Windom, MN

The couple lived in Windom, MN until 1981 when they moved to Rochester, MN. Wayne worked as a truck driver and antique dealer. He took pride in his furniture refinishing business and antique shop – (Peterson’s Antiques and Stripping), for 30+ years.

Wayne loved working at his shop, setting up at antique shows, going to the casino and especially spending time with his granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Peterson; daughter, Tanya Peterson of Rochester, MN; 2 granddaughters, Bri Danielson and Evelyn Johnson; and 5 brothers and sisters. He is preceded in death by his brother.

The Memorial Gathering will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, MN from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester, MN

Condolences

The family of Wayne P. Peterson has received the following condolences.

Wayne was a special friend and an amazing craftsman. He could fix and finish any antique. I enjoyed all our visits to the shop and all of Wayne’s stories. Rochester will never see craftsmanship like that again. Truly an artist in every sense of the word.

My prayers and deepest sympathy to the family.

Sharon and family,

I am so sorry for Wayne's passing and wish you all strength to cope with your loss. After 23 years of bringing hundreds of stripping projects to Wayne, after all the quality jobs  done with care, fairness and promptness the part I will miss the most is settling down on the red metal kitchen stool and having time to visit for 15 or 20 minutes. Whether dropping some piece off or picking it up, the almost weekly ritual of taking time to talk for a while was best part. Wayne enjoyed telling his stories and since we had both been around antiques for 35+ years, there were many memories of "the old days" of antiquing whether refinishing, buying or selling and all the people that went with it. We commiserated, laughed and reminisced. I'll continue to think of him and truly miss the many years of his friendship and business. I couldn't have done it without you Wayne.

Sincerely Will Piens

Wayne refinished several antiques for me and they were wonderfully done.  I will always remember him fondly for his love, care and workmanship that he had for antiques.  He was excellent at what he did.  I am sorry for your loss.

My sympathy to you, Sharon, and your family. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you but think of You Often! May all of the happy memories help heal your loss! RIP, Wayne.
