Thomas Eugene Sexton Sr.

Thomas Eugene Sexton of Pleasant Grove died August 3, 2021 at St Marys hospital in Rochester, MN.

Thomas was born August 6, 1932 in Rochester, MN to Gerald Eugene and Lela Mary Sexton (Wood). He was married to the greatest love of his life, Betty Lou Bakken, on December 3, 1961. Thomas was a veteran who served in the US Army from January 1951 until December 1952. He worked at International Transport in Rochester, and Anderson Trucking in St. Cloud, MN as a safety director. Thomas and Betty ran a used furniture business together and an appliance repair business until his retirement.

Aside from a few moves they lived and raised their children in Pleasant Grove. Thomas loved spending time with family. He and Betty were always helping others if they needed help or even a place to live, their home was always open with a coffee pot ready for visitors.

Thomas had many interests from coon hunting, fishing with his sons, gardening to cutting firewood. He loved to tinker, fix, and invent things with his brother-in-law Donald Bakken.

Thomas will always be remembered for his great love that he always shared and care that he gave. I think his children, along with all the children and families that he helped and loved along the way, can say he was and will always be remembered for the big heart and love that he shared.

Thomas is survived by his children Lou Ann (Dennis) Mensink of Stewartville, Wes Sexton of Stewartville, Thomas (Heather) Sexton Jr of Sargeant, Jerry (Charlene) Sexton of Pleasant Grove, Colleen (Gary) Louks of Rochester, John (Coleen) Sexton of Rochester, Carmen (Neal) Gartner of Chatfield, Mark Sexton of Stewartville; daughter-in-law, Sarah Sexton of Pleasant Grove; 22 grand children and 26 great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Donald Bakken of Stewartville and Gerald Bakken of Bigfork, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, brother, brother-in-law, 6 sisters-in-law, and his son, Paul William.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday August 11, 2021 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Rev. James Berning officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday August 10, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial Will be in Pleasant Grove Union Cemetery.

Dear Loved Ones,

Last night when I called my mother, she told me about the death of Uncle Tom.  I paused in silence and unbelief for a moment.  Uncle Tom was a really neat guy and a great friend to talk to.  I'll never forget talking with him about cars, music and family.  I am so proud of the way you all were very close and caring toward him.  That is a testament to your true , loving bond.  The old school house in Pleasant Grove is a true historical landmark.  Please take good care of yourselves.  I will be praying and thinking of you often.

In sincere sympathy and with heartfelt prayers,

Eric
