Florence Diana Gauthier

Florence Gauthier, a longtime resident of Rochester, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on August 27, 2010 at the Madonna Towers of Rochester, at the age of 85.

Florence was born on October 27, 1924 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. After attending school in Slatersville, RI. she married Alberia Gauthier, on August  4, 1944. She and “Al” raised their family in Rhode Island. In 1980, the family lived in Wisconsin, before moving to Rochester in 1982.
While living in Wisconsin, Florence worked as a baker, preparing more than 30 pies each day. She loved her family, and showed it by sewing entire wardrobes for her children for decades. One of her passions was crocheting, which she spent many hours creating such things as wedding dresses, and table cloths. She loved animals, including her beloved dogs Lazy and Binky, and later Tiny who protected her in her old age. She watched every western film, every game show ever shown, and every episode of Lawrence Welk ever produced.

She was a longtime member of the Pax Christi Catholic Church in Rochester.

She is survived by a daughter, Constance Gauthier, of Rochester; a son-in-law, Jim Clay of Portland, Oregon; and a brother, Conrad Lefebvre of Slatersville, Rhode Island.

She is preceded in death by her husband Alberia, an infant son, a son Maurice, and a brother, Ovila Lefebvre.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Pax Christi Catholic Church, with Fr. Joseph Keefe officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00PM to 8:00PM on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Macken Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church. Graveside services will be held at St. John’s Church Cemetery in Slatersville, RI, on Friday, September 3, 2010.

The family requests that no flowers be sent due to the out-of-state burial. Memorials may be directed to the family.
