Edwin John Helland
Edwin John Helland, 86, of Rochester, MN passed away December 6, 2020.
Edwin was born on September 20, 1934 in Dodge Center, MN to Carl and Dora (Madery) Helland. He served in the army from 1955 to 1957 in Fort Riley, Kansas.
He married Delores (Patchin) July 16, 1960 at the First Methodist Church in Rochester, MN. They were married 60 years, living in the same home for those 60 years.
He worked at IBM as an engineer for 33 years before retiring.
His interests included traveling with a love for Hawaii, visiting yearly for 30+ years. He enjoyed gardening, taking great pride in his tomatoes. He was avid at wood working, making many elaborate pieces of furniture and intricate wood toys with multiple working parts all made by hand. He was also talented in metalwork and made a working toy steam engine tractor that he displayed proudly. He was talented in small engine repair, specializing in lawn mower repair. He also enjoyed fishing, cards, and boating.
He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling a good joke.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Delores; daughters, Sandy (Brian) Haldorson of Rochester and Diane Helland of Rochester; son, Paul Helland of Rochester; 4 grandchildren, Miranda (Brent) Shipman of Rochester, Bailey (Eric) Speidel of Muscateen, IA, Colin Helland of Pella, IA, and Mitchell Haldorson of Rochester; and sister, Wilma (Dale) Jensen of Kasson, MN. He was blessed with one great-grandchild, Wells.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Carl and Dora Helland; and brother, Elmer Helland of Byron, MN.
Due to Covid, a private funeral with immediate family was held, followed by a graveside service.
