Marlene Ann Urban

Marlene Ann Urban, 80, of Rochester passed away on Saturday November 28, 2020 at St. Marys Hospital.

Marlene was born March 8, 1940 in Chatfield, MN to Wayne and Mildred (Gathje) Burke. She graduated from John Marshall High School in 1958. On April 6, 1963 she married Vernon W. Urban Jr. Vernon died on September 11, 2019. Marlene was a lifelong member of South East Rochester and her and Vernon raised two daughters. Marlene was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.

In her younger years, she was an Elvis Presley groupie (or wanted to be). Vern and Marlene love to ride their Harley Davidson motorcycles. They also enjoyed hunting and spending time together outdoors with each other. She liked to garden, can the fresh vegetables, and do all other sorts of labor intensive work. In her later years, she was one of the founders of a book club that lasted for many years and was an avid reader. You could see her out and about on her scooter through South East Rochester.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kim (James Kame) Urban of Chandler, Arizona, and Kelly Stevens of Rochester, MN. She is also survived by her sister Charlotte Sailors of Pine Island, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, December 7, 2020 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester, with Rev. Adam Koglin officiating. Visitation will be held at 2:30 pm at the church. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rochester.

Condolences

The family of Marlene Ann Urban has received the following condolences.

Hi, just found out about Mar's passing.  My deepest sympathies to the family.  Mar held a special place in my heart growing up and she was a special person with a wonderful light.

Kelly and Kim,

I was just told about your moms passing. I am so very sorry! I have so many memories of your parents and they all bring a smile. Your mom was a special person and I will miss her emails and our random phone calls.

Prayers for you all,

Konnie and Brian

Kim, Kelly and Charlotte,

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to all of you at the loss of your mother and sister, Marlene. Marlene and I got to know each other when I started coming to the book club via an invitation from her neighbor Nancy, who I worked with at the time. We shared a love of reading and I continued to stop to visit and pick up the book the club was reading monthly. We always had such a nice visit, Vern would just sit and listen to us talk, and sometimes add in a word or two.

Then, when COVID  became  a concern, I chose not to stop because I didn't want to be responsible to possibly spread it to Marlene after working at the clinic all day. I think she understood the concern I had. I did visit with her on the phone, and again we always had a nice chat.

I'm glad that she was able to stay at home as long as she could. Her faith and her love for her Lord were very important to her, and now she is face to face with her Savior and being embraced in His loving arms.

I am sorry that I am unable to attend the service, I will be at work, but will be thinking of you all.

Take Care,

Dorla Dubbels
