Lorys “Lory” Tichelaar
Lorys Lea Tichelaar, 85 of Rochester, MN passed away peacefully on August 8, 2020 at The Waters Assisted Living.
Lorys Lea Gluen was born on September 8, 1934 in Greenleafton, MN to Winton and Pearl Gluen, where she grew up on the family farm. Lory attended Central College in Pella, IA where she met her husband Donald “Don” Tichelaar. They were happily married for 64 years. Lory loved her husband, her family, and her church. She was an avid reader as well as a wonderful listener. She was a great friend and mentor to many.
She is survived by her husband Don of Rochester, her children Jamie (Randy) Crawford of Rochester, Jan (Mike) Teas of Indianola, IA, daughter-in-law Joleen Tichelaar of Brookfield, WI as well as seven grandchildren Hannah, Sam, Alex, Emily, Joe, Zach and Kendra. Also surviving are her sisters Dianne VanGorp, Carol (Floyd) Wesselink, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved son, Jay.
She will be deeply missed and loved forever. A Celebration of Life Service for Lory will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at 2:00pm in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home officiated by pastor Josh Johnson. Visitation will be held starting at 1:00pm in the chapel. Her ashes will be laid to rest at the Preston, MN State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Rochester Community Church in SE Rochester. (Formerly Church of the Savior).

Lory was one of God's special people put here on earth to teach all of us about love and kindness. I feel so blessed that she was such a special friend. We will miss her dearly.
