Donald B. Galuska
Donald B. Galuska, 88, passed away February 2, 2020 peacefully at his home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born in La Crosse, WI on April 7, 1931 to Egan and Florence (Pierzyne) Galuska. He lived in Arcadia, WI where he attended school and was very active in sports.
In 1948 he was selected from his junior high school class to attend Badger Boys State at Ripon College.
After high school, he attended Eau Claire State University, where he played football, baseball, and basketball. He was captain of the 1954 football team and voted to the All State Team.
He was also a member of the National Guard for 8 years.
His love for the game of baseball continued. When he moved to Winona, he played one year for the Winona Chiefs, in the Southern, MN Baseball League. He later played baseball for the Rochester Red Caps.
After moving to Winona in 1955, he met and married his wife, Mary L Kohner. They have been married for over 64 years.
In 1957, he moved to Rochester where he purchased the Rochester Overhead Door Company. He did this until he retired.
He loved hunting and fishing, especially his trips to Montana and Canada. He and his wife loved to travel and spend many winters in Florida. While in Florida, he started playing Golf and in 1996, he made a hole-in-one. Don was also an Elks member for many years.
After spending 14 years in Florida, they sold their house and started traveling by bus. They traveled to many states and made many more friends. It was a wonderful time in their lives.
Don is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Robert and friend, Julie Johnsen, Terry (Karen) Galuska, Paul Galuska and friend, Sandi Hanson; grandchildren, Nick (Liz), Casey (Amanda), Ashley (Sini), and Cortiney; great-grandchildren, Joseph and Lincoln; and brother, George (Barbara) of Billings, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts, uncles and friends.
The family wishes to thank Season’s Hospice for all their loving care and kindness given to Don.
The Memorial Mass for Donald will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Pax Christi Church with Rev. Will Thompson officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at a later date.

So sorry for your loss. Was sad to see Don passed recently. I feel very fortunate to have known him and appreciate all he did for me when I worked for Overhead Door. He was a great man! I will always think of him and his family fondly. Many great memories of Don, Mary, Bob, Terry and Paul. Your family is awesome!

Dear Galuska family,
Please accept my condolences on the death of Don. Your husband and father was a respected friend of my Dad’s over the years, and I remember Dad telling me about Don’s sports accomplishments. He came to our home several times for door installations or repairs or just to visit, and he always was friendly and kind.
You are in my thoughts and prayers in your time of loss.
Don was rightfully proud of his athletic and business accomplishments but his best accomplishment was raising a good family along with his wife Mary.

I have so many fond memories of Don. Great times on the river with sunshine, sandbars, boating and fishing. He was a wonderful friend and coveted hunting and fishing companion to my dad. He was always kind and had a great sense of humor although sometimes pretty corny! My heart is heavy with his loss but I know that my parents were there to greet him at the gates and welcome him home. I will treasure him in my heart always. My love to you Don!
Many memories and lots of photos will be treasured. Uncle Don and Dad have SO many similarities... (I found that out when I spent a couple of weeks in Rochester one summer during High School)...their laugh, mannerisms and control of the "clicker" (what we had before fancy remote controls for the TV)! To my Minnesota family, I love you all! My heart is broken but I know that this is a temporary separation and that we will all see Uncle Don again. My love to you all!

We wish to express our condolences on the loss of your Father, Don. Richard was remembering some of his stories and how he would laugh when telling them. Like going to the Overhead Door conventions, the first night was party time but you had to be in the meeting room by the designated starting time or the doors were locked. Richard loved his sense of humor.
