Doris Arlene Toddie, age 87, died peacefully on October 31, 2018 at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester. She was born on December 2, 1931 in Brooten, Minnesota to Colman and Clara Lorentson.
She graduated from Saint Paul Mechanic Arts High School in the class of 1948. Too young to enter Nursing School at age 17, she attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls for one year before returning to Saint Paul to attain her Nursing Degree from the University of Minnesota. She moved to Rochester in pursuit of a master’s degree where she fell in love. On September 7, 1963, she married Albert J. Toddie at Christ Lutheran Church in Saint Paul, MN. They enjoyed a beautiful marriage for 42 years until Al’s death in 2004. Doris worked as a Public Health Nurse for Olmsted County, School Nurse at John Marshall High School and Director of Community Services at Methodist Hospital, where she retired.
Doris lived a wonderful life full of love and faith, deeply devoted to her family, her church and her community. She spread joy and light where ever she ventured, whether on a mission trip to Africa or Mexico or giving a friend a ride to church.
She is survived by her three children, Susan Toddie Oeltjen of Lake Elmo, MN, John Toddie of West Fargo, ND and Steven Toddie of Saint Paul, MN; and seven grandchildren, Alexa, Madeline, Isabel, Laura, Rawley, Wyatt and Asa. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Al; and her sister, Donna Jensen.
The funeral for Doris Toddie will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 7th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester with Pastor Anjanette Bandel officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6th in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
