Frieda Augusta Carter

Frieda Augusta Carter passed away on Saturday, April 17 at the age of 98.  She had resided at Samaritan Bethany Home since January and the previous four years at Samaritan Bethany Terrace.  A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Zumbro Lutheran Church on Wednesday, April 21 at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Wayne F. Vogt officiating.  There will be a time to visit family one hour before the service.  Following cremation, burial will be at Park Rapids, MN at a later date.

Frieda was born in Jesup, Iowa on November 26, 1911 to Henry August Tonn and Emelia (Horn) Tonn.  On June 8, 1938 she married Max Lutz Carter.  She retired in 1980 from USDA – Farmers Home Administration office in Rochester, MN, previously at Park Rapids, MN and Little Falls, MN.  She was an active member of Zumbro Lutheran Church, Rochester Senior Citizens Center, WaTanYeCub, St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary, Rochester Woodcarvers as well as Samaritan Bethany Auxiliary.  During retirement she enjoyed woodcarving, quilting, traveling, working on her genealogy and computer and keeping in touch with family and friends.  She always enjoyed her flowers and plants.

Frieda is survived by her son Mark Dennis Carter and his wife Cathy of Albert Lea, MN; grandson Darren Carter and his wife Melissa of Shoreview MN as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Max on February 11, 1958; brothers Hilbert Tonn and Martin Tonn and sister Olinda Kaufmann.
