Vivian B. Mathison
Vivian Mathison, 83, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning with her family by her side.
Vivian Beatrice Mathison was born November 8, 1933 in Lanesboro, MN to Mabel and Paul Topness. On February 15, 1953 she married Harold Mathison and later divorced after 23 years. On November 10, 1995, she married Gerald Severud. He died on July 2, 2010.
Vivian worked as a certified nursing assistant for nearly 21 years until her retirement. In earlier years, she did waitress work, cleaning of houses, retail work and book keeping. After her retirement, she worked at the gift shop at the Radisson for nearly three years.
Vivian enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, photography, going to dances and country western music. She also enjoyed socializing with her friends and coworkers, her cat of 19 years and watching soap operas on television. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her two children, Cheryl (Butch) Sweeney of Rochester and Larry Mathison of Rochester; three grandchildren, Jeremy (Amy) Bluhm, Jenna Bluhm (Breanna Tyrrel) and Toshia Bjerke (Billy Robinson); one great-grandson, Nolan Robinson; one sister, Evelyn Larson; one niece and several nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and twin sister.
A Celebration of Life for Vivian Mathison will be held from 2:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday, September 30 at Vivian’s daughter’s house – 7652 County Road 19 SE Rochester, MN 55904

My sincere condolence for the lost of your Mother and Grandmother! She was a very special lady and was loved by many. We worked together at Woodside Nursing home for many years. Have lots fun and many good memories at work and outside. Use to go to the VFW together. Everytime I hear Johnnie B Good I think of her and remember those good times. May your faith get you all through this hard time. God Bless and Prays for her Family.
