Joyce Marie Duncan

Joyce Marie Duncan, age 89, passed away on August 6th, 2017 at Season’s Hospice Home in Rochester following an unexpected cancer diagnosis which progressed rapidly.

Joyce Marie Underbakke was born on July 1, 1928, one of ten children, born to Knut and Amanda Underbakke in Canton, MN.

As a young adult, Joyce went to teacher’s training in Winona and later taught in a rural school near the Iowa border. She later moved to Rochester and worked for the Zumbro Hotel until her marriage on July 14, 1956 to Richard Duncan.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years; her daughter, Cynthia Koenck of Rochester; her sons, David of Rochester, and Bruce of Millville, MN; and her grandchildren, Jaime (Justin) Long of Rochester, and Carter Duncan of Millville, MN.

She is preceded in death by her parents; all of her siblings; and a son, Thomas.

Joyce loved being a grandmother and prior to her death expressed that she loved every minute of being with her grandchildren.

The Memorial Service for Joyce will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 1:00PM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior the service in the chapel. Burial of her ashes will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens Columbarium.

Tom and Deb

Joyce was such a kind person. She was always so good to us.  Seth and Miles thought she was so fun and interesting to visit with. She will be missed ?

I am unable to attend the service for Joyce due to work obligations, but wish to express my condolences to the Duncan family during this difficult time.  My connection to the family is through Joyce's son David, a long term friend and running partner.
