Shirley Ann Hammes

Shirley Ann Hammes – Rochester, Minnesota

The funeral for Shirley Hammes will be at 12:00PM on Friday, January 6 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, MN. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:30AM to 12:00PM.

Shirley Hammes passed away unexpectedly of natural cause on January 1. She was born Shirley Ann Clark on June 26, 1926 in Oronoco, MN to Paul (Ernest) and Delilah Clark.

She graduated from Rochester High School in 1944. She married Joseph Hammes on October 3, 1946 making their home in Rochester. Shirley was a stay at home mom who raised five children and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Shirley loved to bake cookies, banana bread and whatever else the grandkids requested. Shirley loved watching Minnesota Twins baseball, Jeopardy, the Wheel of Fortune, and the Price is Right. Her bible study was also a favorite of hers. In her early years, Shirley and Joe loved camping, boating and fishing on the Mississippi, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.

Shirley is survived by her five children; Kathy Hammes-Norman of Chandler, AZ., Joey Hammes of Prescott Valley, AZ., Steve (Jodi) Hammes, Frank (Jean) Hammes, and Chris Hammes all of Rochester, MN. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren,15 great-grandchildren, one brother, Donnie Clark of Zumbrota, and one sister, Carol Ranthum of Byron.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, who passed away in 1989, two sisters and three brothers.

Rest in peace Mom (Grandma), we love you.

Condolences

The family of Shirley Ann Hammes has received the following condolences.

We look forward to seeing our loved ones again because of the Bible's promise at Acts 24:15 "And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous." One day soon the earth will be a paradise again ,which was Jehovah Gods original purpose .Isaiah 65:20-22 helps us to see that the day will come when our days will be like those of a tree, and even long-lived trees will seem to us as transient as the grass, coming and going while we continue living forever. Please accept my deepest deepest sympathy.

Chris,

We are very sorry for your loss.  Someone shared with us that you were a wonderful son to your mother.   May Shirley rest in peace.

Our prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of a loved mother and grandmother.  We hope that you can gain comfort from the time shared with family and friends as you celebrate a life well lived.

The McCormacks

Joe Hammes , sorry for the lose of your mother.

Dear folks who loved Shirley. I loved her, too. She went to my church, Homestead United, and belonged to my circle. She belonged to 4-H and graduated from high school with my late husband. She and I became great friends. She was a wonderful, friendly, full-of-energy lady. Her sister Carol is also a friend of mine. We will miss her. I am sending some money in her memory to both Homestead Church and Naomi Circle. I pray God gives you pleasant memories. Sincerely, Hazel Markham

Steve and Jodi,

It is sad to have them leave us no matter what the circumstance.  May God wrap his arms around you and your family and give you comfort in the days ahead.  Hold onto the memories that you have made for they will ease the pain of losing such an important person in your life.

God Bless.
