Luella M. “Lou” Lund
Luella M. “Lou” Lund, age 87, died peacefully at her home in Rochester on Saturday, August 13, 2016.
She was born Luella Marie Ost February 16, 1929 at Faribault, MN to Joseph and Alma (Paro) Ost. She grew up on a nearby farm and graduated Bethlehem Academy in Faribault.
She moved to Rochester as a young woman and worked for several area businesses including Mayo Clinic and Marigold Dairies. On August 27, 1949 she married Clayton C. “Kaco” Lund at St. Francis Catholic Church. He survives.
Lou was a homemaker and founding member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She was an active golfer for many years; some of the highlights include winning the 1983 Willow Creek Golf Championship title and later attaining a hole-in-one on October 5, 1997. She also enjoyed fishing, contract bridge and was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan. She loved “barefeet” and “babies”.
In addition to her husband, survivors include six children, Susan (Dave “Jake”) Jacobs of Rochester, MN; Carol (Craig) Teal of Rancho Marietta, CA; Todd (Devon) Lund of Rushford, MN; Kristine “Tina” Goodspeed of La Crescent, MN; Dane (Kristy) Lund and Peter Lund, both of Lake City, MN. 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren also survive. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Joan Mensing and Kandis Mensing, both of Faribault. She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin brother Leo and sisters Delma and Alma (Tootsie).
A Memorial Mass for Lou will be offered 11:00am Thursday, August 18, 2016 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, officiated by Father Charlie Collins. Visitation will be one hour (10:00am to 11:00am) prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Mayo Clinic Study of Ageing.
