Viola F. Schuchart

Viola F. Schuchart, 94, of Rochester, Minnesota passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, June 29th, 2016 at Madonna Towers.  She was born February 11, 1922 in Stacyville, Iowa on the family farm, daughter of Anton J. & Margaret (Hemann) Michels.

She married Wayne A. Schuchart on August 23rd, 1948 at Sacred Heart Church in Osage, Iowa.  They lived in Cedar Falls, IA and Davenport, IA before moving to Rochester in 1966, when Wayne became Librarian at the newly opened Mayo High School.   Wayne passed away in July, 1978, just a month before their 30th Wedding Anniversary.

Viola graduated from Visitation High School in Stacyville, Iowa and graduated from La’James College and School of Beauty.  She was a beautician for many years, owning her own Beauty Shop.   In 1973, she joined the Mayo Clinic and was the Hostess at the Mayo Foundation House for a number of years before transferring to the Department of Diagnostic Radiology.  Viola retired from Mayo Clinic in 1985.  Viola was a Charter Member of Church of the Resurrection.  For many years after retirement, Viola was active in Serra Club, St. Raphael’s Guild, Saint Marys Auxiliary, and volunteer at Resurrection (Eucharistic Ministry, greeter, Alter Guild, funerals, fundraising activities).  She was a world traveler and enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, playing cards with a variety of card clubs (especially as a member of the 9th Avenue Neighborhood Card Club for almost 50 years). But above all, she treasured her beloved Wayne, their daughters, sons-in-law (whom she thought of as sons), grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters, Beth (Steve) Robb, Marie (Jeff) Brown, and Amy (Stan) Mayer, all of Rochester; grandchildren & great-grandchildren, Jeff (Claudia) Robb and Lydia of Dubuque, IA, Jennifer (Adam) Hartmann and Hannah, Hadley, Henry of Rochester, Hilary Brown of Madison, WI, Anthony Brown of Rochester, Kevin Mayer of Madison, WI, and Kyle Mayer of Rochester; brothers Eugene (Mary) Michels, Norbert Michels, sister-in-law Marjorie Michels, all of Stacyville, IA, and sister-in-law Karen Michels of Dubuque, IA; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents, her brothers Ralph Michels and Elmer Michels, her sister Agnes Michels, her niece Margaret Ann Michels, her brother-in-law Virgil and his wife Viola B. Schuchart.

A funeral Mass will be on Friday, July 1st at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Msgr. Donald Schmitz officiating.  Visitation is from 5:00-7:00PM on Thursday, June 30th at River Park Chapel and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

The family prefers memorials to Church of the Resurrection, Mayo Clinic, or Madonna Towers.

Our family have good memories of Viola and Wayne.  My parents, Myron and Violetta, would meet up with them for Summer Picnics, sometimes in Waverly, sometimes in Little Cedar during the 50's and 60's.  Later, when my wife and I moved to Cedar Falls in the mid-60s, we would visit Viola and Cedar Falls at their house at 6th and Clay. Viola was always so pleasant and gracious.  I remember when they moved to Rochester MN. into a "big" house, Viola was so neat and organized.  Later we would get together occasionally when some of the Schuchart relatives came from Texas I remember Viola and family being in Dysart at Ralph Schuchart's in the early 70's.  I know my brother Don and sister Mary were around for these gatherings, too.

More recently - well, up to about 10 years ago - I enjoyed reading Viola's news in the "round robin" letter that we used to exchange.

My condolences to Viola's family members. You have a challenge to keep up with your mother.

Marie,

We are sorry for the loss of your mother.  You are in our thoughts and prayers.

My sincere sympathy to you Beth, Marie, Amy and your families.  In reading your mother's obituary, it certainly describes a life well lived. I loved the wedding picture and I can see each of you in your mother's lovely face.  God's blessings upon each of you.

Dear Marie and Family,

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother. Although I did not have the honor of meeting your Mom I reflected on her full life described in the obit and her impact on so many others. Such a special person in your life and in the lives of others.

May you be comforted by the outpouring of love surrounding you.

Steve Kruisselbrink

I'm so sorry for your loss.  Vi has been one of those people I've admired in our church community; the people who do what needs to be done, quietly and efficiently.  I'll always remember that beautiful smile.  Loved reading about the other aspects of her life in the obituary.

Hi Beth & Family,

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mom.  Moms are really the heart of the family and I am sure you will feel that loss.  It sounds like she had a long and wonderful life and I am sure you have countless memories and stories of her travels and her strong community and family ties.  Know that your friends are thinking of you in this difficult time.

Beth I am thinking of you at this time of grief and loss. I know the world is forever changed when a parent dies. Even though I never met your Mom I know she was a very special lady because of how special you are. I pray the presence of family and friends helps during this time and that words provide some comfort. With sympathy, Katrina Hacker
