Maurice F. Salmon

Maurice Francis Salmon, 83, of Rochester, passed away at St. Marys hospital on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015 from injuries sustained in an accident.

There will be a public visitation on Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 4-7pm at River Park Chapel of Macken Funeral Home in Rochester. A private burial ceremony will take place at a later date.

Maury was born August 13, 1932, the youngest of nine children to Deglin Salmon and Susan Wermeskirchen in Claremont, MN. He was preceded in death by his ex-wife Rita and his eight siblings. He is survived by his four children: David (Hope) of Crescent City, CA; Colleen (Rob) of Arden Hills, MN; Michael (Mary Jo) of Camden, ME; and Tom (Michelle) of Rochester, MN; six grandchildren, Miranda, Johanna, Erik, Darby, Ryan, and Brandon; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Sage.

Maury was a Korean-War-era Air Force veteran, a private pilot who loved to fly, and Commander of the Rochester Squadron of Civil Air Patrol for many years. His other loves included walleye fishing, teaching tricks to his schnauzers Fritz, Schultz and Max, rooting for Minnesota professional sports teams, and his grandchildren. After retiring from a long career at IBM, Maury enjoyed being a snow bird, heading to San Benito, Texas each fall with his life-long friend Ron Jaeb when the temperature started to drop. He will be remembered for his compassion, gentle humor, and easy going nature. Memorials can be made to Rochester Civil Air Patrol or American Legion Post 92.
