Mary Carol (Bohrer) Koepsell
A memorial service for Mary Koepsell to be held 11:00 am Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester with Rev. Dr. James Heining officiating. There will be a visitation one hour before the service.
Mary was born December 24, 1932, in Murphysboro, Illinois, to Lillie and Dr. Rev. E. H. Bohrer. She attended Valparaiso University and was installed as Deaconess for St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota, where she met Douglas William Koepsell. Mary and Doug were married on August 31, 1957, at St. Matthew, then moved to the Moorhead area where Doug finished his teaching degree.They lived in Delavan and St. Paul, Minnesota before settling in Cambridge, where they lived for 33 years. Retired in 1996, they moved to a lake home in Pine City, and in 2004 to Rochester.
Mrs. Koepsell died July 31, 2015, at Maple Manor in Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Helen. She is survived by her husband Doug; her children and their families: Joyce Koepsell; Janice, Tom, and Hannah Zdrazil; Scott, Shari, Adam, and Alex & Margaret Koepsell; three siblings: Eunice, Dot, and John; and many nieces and nephews.
Though she worked at the library in Cambridge for many years, her true joy and calling was in ministry to the church and its people, through singing in the choir and leading and participating in Bible studies, women’s retreats and prayer ministries. She will also be remembered by many for her faithful correspondence through the years. Memorials are preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Hour, or World Vision.

Sadly, I received an email today about Mary's death. I remember both of you so well from my days in Cambridge when I served at the State Hospital. Both you and Mary were so kind to me during those years. I am deeply sorry that I did not know about Mary's funeral as I would have come. I live in Onalaska, WI. Had I known you and Mary were so close I would have enjoyed a visit with you both. Will keep you in my prayers and fondly remember Mary. God bless and keep you and your family.
i was just a little girl when Mary Carol Bohrer came to St Matthew as its 1st deaconess. The idea was entirely new to me, but I was so impressed with her as a female figure of authority in the congregation. I recall her & her work fondly & send all sympathy to her family & friends.
Doug, and family, I am so saddened to hear the news about Mary Carol. I think I can speak for the rest of the Cambridge Lions Club when I say that she supported Doug in his community volunteer activities and for that, our communities are better for it. She will be missed and prayers go out to you.

My dear Aunt Mary and Godmother. I as well as many others will miss Mary. She was a wonderful Christian woman whose love for the Lord showed every time you'd see or talk to her. I guess what I remember the most about her is her sense of humor and her love for dogs.
Miles have kept us apart for through the years, but I always knew she cared deeply for my family and I, and prayed for us daily.
I wish I could be there for the service, but those miles once again will keep us apart.
I'm most grateful for the time this past June that we got to spend together. Even laying in bed her humor and love of family and God showed through our conversation.
To Doug, Joyce, Janice, Scott and your entire family, know our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort and strength in the days ahead.
