Debra Kay Johnson

Debra Kay “Deb” Johnson, age 60, died peacefully on June 29th, 2015 at St. Mary’s hospital in Rochester. She was born to Shirley Wilson and the late Richard Wilson on February 11, 1955 in Rochester.

Deb graduated Mayo High School in 1973, and later graduated from Rochester Vocational and Technical College with a degree in Laboratory Technology.  She married Scott Johnson at the Congregational Church of Rochester on August 7, 1976.  She retired from Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus in 2010 after over 30 years of service.

Deb always kept busy by finding creative ways of being thoughtful and generous with her family and friends.  She loved reading, fishing, the outdoors, music, and being with her family and friends.  She was loving and passionate while always thinking of others.  She was always moving, thinking, and very helpful. She was thoughtful and loving to the very end. Deb was taken too soon, but will always be with us.

She is survived by her husband Scott, her mother Shirley of Rochester, daughter Beth of Rochester, her son Nick (Mary) of LeClaire, IA, her grandchildren Evelyn “Evie” and Marshall, siblings Barb (Vic) Fujimoto of San Francisco, Dennis (Sue) Wilson of Rochester, Mary (Steve) Gudgell of Red Wing, Jon (Tina) Wilson of Rosemount, MN, Julie (Jim) Villaroman of San Francisco, and many more family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents and her father.

A special “Thank-you’ is extended to all the family and friends who meant so much to Deb throughout her life. Thank you all for your help during this hard time.

A Memorial Service for Deb will be held on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 2:00PM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral.

Memorials are preferred to the Eagles Cancer Telethon.

Macken Funeral Home is handling the arrangements and online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com

Our thoughts are with your families at this sad time.  We knew Deb through Nick and Mary.  She was a fun Grandma and we just had pizza picnic with her and her Grandkids a few weeks ago.  My family will remember her as a fun Grandma to Evie and Marahall.  We are sorry for your loss and will think of your family often.

Nick, Nicole, Molly and Dean Wannemacher

Scott and family,

I am so sorry to hear this news.  My heart and prayers are with you and the kids.  She is too young for this to happen.  She was so fun and crazy.  All those times of Texas Holdem with the pink poker nights.  Please feel our hugs and know that we are thinking of all of you.

Prayers,

Brenda and Al Hiniker

Dear Scott, Beth and Nick,

We were so sorry to hear about Deb and hoped for the best. Nothing can help the shock and the incredible sadness all of you must feel. Stop over anytime Scott and God Bless all of you in this terrible time of sorrow.

Ruth and Denis

Dear Scott and family,

Our heart-felt sympathy upon hearing of Deb's passing. All our prayers to you and your family as you forge ahead. God Bless.

Johnson Family,

Sorry for your loss.  Thinking of you.

I am very sorry that everything I did was not enough to bring Debra back to you.  I can only say that everything possible was done, and there may be some consolation in that.

You were all a gracious family to be with during these past several days, and now all I can do is express to you my heartfelt condolences.  Please know that I will meet with any of you if you have any questions about the care I provided, both at the scene of the arrest and in the hospital.
