Susan Marie Schuett

Susan Schuett passed away in the comfort of her home February 10, 2017 after losing her long and courageous battle to Pancreatic Cancer.

Susan Marie Fieck was born December 6, 1956 in Rochester, MN to Jack and Dorothy Fieck, number four of five. She grew up in southeast Rochester, graduated from Mayo High School in 1975, and went on to get her Medical Secretary Diploma from Rochester Area Vocational School in 1976.

Sue worked briefly at the Mayo Clinic as a Medical Secretary but was soon lured to a more challenging position at the Olmsted Medical Center. Her new position gave her a broader range of office management experiences that would help her launch into a career in Informational Technology. As Sue continued to grow with the organization and continued to accept more responsibilities, she would eventually earn a degree in Informational Technology from Carlton College and eventually became the CIO at Olmsted Medical Center. After 36 years of work at the organization she “loved”, Sue’s illness forced her into an early retirement.

Over the years, Sue enjoyed the companionship of her many pets; her golden retriever, Mickey, was her current buddy. Another form of relaxation that Sue enjoyed was through her creative work on one of her many craft projects, and she always seemed to have a few different projects going at the same time. Sue would always make time for her favorite pasttime/antique-collecting. While her house was filled with “treasures” she had collected, Sue would always get excited over any “unexpected find” she could add to one of her collections. Sue also loved gardening and supervising home remodel projects.

Sue is survived by her husband, Rick, with whom she had just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary, and her buddy, Mickey. Also surviving is Sue’s “friend/sister”, Lori (Fred) Wright of Rochester, MN; brothers, Steve Fieck of Beverly Hills, Florida, and Terry (Doraine) Fieck of Everett, Washington. Sue’s parents, Jack and Dorothy Fieck, and her sister, Lynda Sawyer preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 10:00AM-12:00PM in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 12:00PM with Rev. Luke Nelson officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Center Grove Cemetery in Douglas, MN.

The family wishes all memorials to the OMC Regional Foundation.

Online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com.

I was very saddened to hear of Sue's passing.  I had the absolute pleasure of working with Sue from 1982-1992.  Sue was not only a wonderful co-worker, but a mentor and one of the best Supervisors I have ever had.   I learned so much from her.  She was an all around thoughtful and great person.  I only wish I would have kept in touch with her.

May you rest in peace Sue.  It was an honor to know you!

We returned from overseas yesterday, and learned of Sue's death. I worked with Sue at OMC, she was without a doubt, one of the finest persons I knew. We will remember her in our prayers.

I can remember when Sue was hired at OMC, as I spent 44 years in Pediatrics at OMC. Sue was ALWAYS a pleasure to work with and in my mind will always be remembered by the SMILE on her face !!! She was a class act !!!

I regret not being able to attend but would like to express heart felt condolences to the family !!!

I cannot say that I knew Sue personally but she was a very important part of my professional life. Sue taught me how to analyze a problem, run a meeting, manage people, and maintain professionalism at all times.  She was brilliant and fun to watch in a meeting--you had to be there!  OMC has lost one of its best.  I'm sure she was the same type of invaluable person in her private life.  My deepest condolences to her family for this untimely loss.

My sincere and deepest sympathies to Sue's family.  I first met Sue when I was hired at OMC (OMG then).  Sue was my supervisor and mentor.  Her professional manner and calm demeanor were excellent examples that helped shape my own skills over the years.  I remember her big smile and her caring heart.  Sue was one of the reasons I have many fond memories of my years at OMC.  We'll miss you, Sue.

Rick/Lori families:  It has been almost 22 years since I worked with Sue (and Lori ;0) at Olmsted.   Sue had a laugh that was hard to forget!!  I am so sorry she has passed!!  May all the wonderful memories you have with her, comfort you in the days to come!!  -My best-

I'm so very very sorry for your loss, Lori- Sue was an amazing, upbeat, and generous person with her time and talents and always a role model to look up to at OMC.  She will be dearly missed.
