Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be held at the church before the service from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Mrs. Vangalis, 87, of Rochester died Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at Rochester Methodist Hospital. Phyllis was born June 29, 1927 in Plato, MN to William and Elsie (Hanson) Wolff. She graduated from Glencoe High School in Glencoe, MN in 1945, and as a Registered Nurse from the Kahler School of Nursing in 1948. Phyllis worked as a nurse in Denver, Co., and Minneapolis, before moving to Rochester in 1954.  On June 26, 1955 she married Louis Vangalis at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Phyllis worked as a nurse at Rochester Methodist Hospital for 20 years before retiring in 1987. After her retirement, she volunteered for Methodist Hospital Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels. Phyllis shared a love for horses, and did a lot of riding in her younger years. She also loved to read, listen to music, knit and do crafts. Phyllis was also an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins.

Survivors include her husband Louis, daughters Nancy (Terry) Miller and Ann Vangalis, both of Rochester. She is also survived by her two granddaughters, Krista and Alyssa Miller, both of Rochester, as well as many nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Eunice Wuethrich, and her brother Clifford Wolff.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Peace United Church of Christ or the Ronald McDonald House

Condolences to Lou,  Nancy & Ann.   We are saddened to hear of the passing of Phyllis.  Very fond memories of the Vangalis family when we were neighbors and friends in Oak Hills.  So grateful that we were able to reconnect 4 yrs. ago at Lou's 90th birthday party.   Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this sad time.  Sending our love…. Phyllis & Kees

Dear Ann, Nancy, Lou and family,

I was so saddened to hear about the passing of Phyllis.  She was such a beautiful person, both inside and outside.

I have so many memories I can't even begin to list them all.  I do know that being such good friends with Ann allowed me to get to know Phyllis and be a part of your family.  I remember many dinners, vacations and just time spent at the house in Oak Hills.  I am so grateful that she and all of you made me feel so welcome.  I fondly remember stopping by to see Lou and Phyllis at Real Life several years ago when I was home visiting my own parents.  It was like time had not gone by, so easy to talk and laugh with her again.

Please know that I am keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

Love,

Margaret

Dear Lou,

May God grant you His comfort and peace in this time of sorrow and loss.

Vangalis Family,

Sorry to hear about Phylis she always had a special spot in my heart. She would always ask me about how my business was going. It was so nice to see her at my open house last year. As you know I winter in Florida so I will not be able to see all of you Saturday. Lou, I will stop by the next time I'm in town.

To Lou and Family,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Phyllis.  She was a wonderful person and I will miss her.  I always enjoyed her smiling face at the Auxiliary desk.

Sincerely, Vonnie Weeldreyer

I will forever remember Aunt Phyllis as a lady of class.  Her hair was always perfect, clothes always neat and she carried herself in such a graceful way.  She was never anything but kind to me and I honestly never heard a negative thing come out of her mouth.  My heart breaks for the entire Vangalis family & beyond, but especially for Anne, Nancy and Uncle Lou.  Rest in peace Aunt Phyllis, you were a class act.

Love Matt Vangalis & family

Nancy, Terry and family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We hope that the memories of your mom and the joy she brought to you all help you through this difficult time.

Nancy and Anne,

My deepest sympathy.  My parents always enjoyed there visits with your Mom and Dad. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
