Maynard G. Westergaard

Maynard G. Westergaard passed away August 25, 2016 at St. Marys Hospital. He had just celebrated his 89th birthday one week ago.

Maynard George Westergaard was born August 18, 1927 son of John and Ida Westergaard in Iowa. He grew up on a farm with two brothers, James and Eldar.

He graduated and entered the Army. In 1947 when he was stationed in Munich, Germany he met Anselma Zettl. January 8, 1949 they were married in Albert Lea, MN. He worked as an Appraiser. They moved to Rochester working at Olmsted County Court House along with many part-time jobs. He and Anselma took many trips to Germany to visit her family. He mostly enjoyed riding bikes, taking care of the yard, and of course the family parrot “Polly”. At the age of 65 he retired.

Survivors include his wife, Anselma; a daughter, Sandra (Kenneth) Stock; a son, Gregory; four grandchildren, Michael (Kayla) Stock, Elizabeth Stock, Cole Westergaard, and Lucas Westergaard; one great-grandchild, Brayden Stock; and one brother, Eldar.

The funeral will be at 1:00pm on Monday, August 29, 2016 at the River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home with Pastor Karna Hagen Moskalik officiating.  The visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion, Post 92.

The family of Maynard G. Westergaard has received the following condolences.

My dear family. Sorry about your loss. When the enemy death strikes, the sting of death can be very painful, and can leave us with emotions that are hard to understand. Know that when you pour out your heart to God (Psalms 83:18) in prayer, He will give you that  Peace that surpasses all understanding to guard your thinking and your heart. May the family stay together during this difficult times.

My condolences go out to all of Maynard's family.  I worked with him when we were at the old courthouse and so enjoyed knowing such a wonderful man.  All who knew him and worked with him would agree.

Always so outgoing and always ready to help.  He will be missed.
