Marie Diane Holets

The funeral for Marie D. “Tina” Holets will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2017, at River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Fogal officiating.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

Marie had a long struggle living with Parkinson’s disease.  She was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer.  She passed away peacefully at home with family around her.

She was born in Protivin, Iowa, in 1941 to Edwin and Rose Zahasky.  Marie graduated from Protivin High School in 1959.

Marie moved to Rochester after graduation and worked at St. Mary’s Hospital.  In 1964 she married Joseph Holets at St. Pius Catholic Church.  They made their home in Rochester where they raised their daughter, Laurie.  They were married for 52 years.  Marie worked at St. Mary’s until retirement.

Marie is survived by her husband, Joseph Holets; daughter, Laurie, (Robert) Frey of Savage, Minnesota, and siblings Merlin (Karen) Zahasky, LuAnn (Allen) Borlaug, and Bernie (Steve) Beecher.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Rose Zahasky, and sister Patty (Otto) Glieber.

Marie enjoyed spending time shopping, going to lunch and movies with her daughter, Laurie, and watching Vikings and Twins games with her husband, Joe.  She enjoyed getting together with her sisters and large extended family by playing cards, attending Oscar parties, fish frys and just being around family and friends.

Memorials are preferred to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. www.michaeljfox.org

Macken Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com

Condolences

The family of Marie Diane Holets has received the following condolences.

I recently read of your loss, and wanted to express my deepest sympathy. When a person dies, we keep them alive in our hearts and minds, through us the memories of them live on. There is hope for us found in the Bible at John 5:28,29 "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his (Jesus) voice and come out." So according to that scripture, there is a hope for us, the hope of the resurrection. Until that day comes, may we look to Jehovah God and one another for comfort(2 Corinthians 1:3,4). For more comfort please visit Jw.org.

Laurie and Bob,

Steve and I were saddened to read about your mom. Laurie, you were such a great daughter, always looking for ways to make your mom most comfortable and happy. We wish you peace at this difficult time.

Joe, I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Know my prayers and thoughts are with you.

Dear Laurie and Joe,

We are very sadden by the loss of our loving sister, but know that she is at peace with the Lord. Her trial is over and I'm sure Patty, Mom and Dad are enjoying her company in heaven. Your mom was a great mom and sister who would do anything for us.  Loved growing up with her and having her as my big sister.  In her youth she loved going to dances, playing card, running the kitchen and keeping informed on everyone. She was alway  keeping up on all the nieces and nephews, sports,  and was alway following those Vikings and Twin games when I'd talk to her on the phone. We will miss her but keep her memory very close in our hearts. Our family's sympathy to you Laurie and Joe.

LuAnn and Allen Borlaug, Mike, Dave, Marc, and Alyssa and their families

Thoughts and prayers to all of the family.  We love you.

Monica Zahasky

Our deepest sympathy to Joe and Laurie and Bob.  Marie will be so missed by you and by all of us who loved her.  We have so many wonderful memories of her and of family gatherings.  Laurie and our daughters would play together when they were small and we would often take them out to dinner while Merlyn and Joe were working the evening shift at IBM. She was so kind and loving and loved her family and friends very much.  We will miss her but we know that now she is without pain and suffering and with our Lord.  May your wonderful memories of her be a consolation during this sad time.   Our love to you.  Merlyn, Karen, Julie, Suzanne and Monica and their families.
