June Hovland, a long time resident of Rochester, died on September 26, 2014 at Season’s Hospice at the age of 87.

She was born April 18, 1927 in Windom, Minnesota, graduating from Jeffers High School in 1944.  In 1945 she graduated from Minneapolis Business College and was employed by the Guardian Life Insurance Company in Minneapolis until her marriage to Roger Hovland, April 3, 1948.

She was a homemaker and a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for 58 years.  During that time she was active in Sarah Circle, Project Compassion, Prayer Chain, taught Bible, Wednesday Night and Sunday school for over 60 years.  She loved teaching children about Christ’s love, sharing and visiting the elderly and shut-ins.  She enjoyed many trips with her husband in a travel trailer throughout the United States, Canada, and Alaska.  For seven years they were with Labors for Christ, building churches.

She was devoted to her family, derived pleasure cooking, baking, and sewing quits for them.  She enjoyed gardening, cross word puzzles, square, round, and old time dancing, with many members of Redeemer.  She enjoyed being involved in the activities of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Roger of 66 years, three children, Diana (Craig) McHenry of Cottage Grove, Craig (Ruth) Hovland of Minneapolis, and Jill Adams of Minneapolis, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church one-hour prior to the service on Wednesday.  Memorials are preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church Sunday School or Project Compassion or Season’s Hospice.

Condolences

The family of June Marie Hovland has received the following condolences.

I will always remember our trips to Colorado and Glacier Park to meet up with Roger and June.  Then there was the road trip from Glacier Park to Banff where we climbed Tunnel Mountain and then Jasper where we walked up to and touched the nearby Athabasca Glacier.  June was a kind, sweet, wonderful person who was fun to be around - always upbeat and positive.  God bless her.  I will always remember her and the good times we had.

To the Hovland family, your wife, mother, grandma, greatgrandma, was a truely a wonderful person inside and out. Her family came first! In our visits she talked about her family, her church family  and friends. She loved all the little children she taught in sunday school through out the years and how much all of them meant to her.She will definately be missed. I am sorry i cannot attend her service but know I am thinking of her, my dear friend. My deepest sympathy to you all.

Honored to have had the chance to meet June and her family through her daughter, my dear friend Diana McHenry.  She welcomed me on an Easter Sunday, and made me feel home, like I belong.  Beautiful person.  Will be miss and never forgotten.

Aunt June was a treasure, faithful godmother, and wonderful blessing in my life!  I'm so very thankful for her presence over the years.  Blessings to you Uncle Roger, Diana & Craig, Craig & Ruth, Jill, and all the grandchildren and great grandchildren--may God wrap you all up in his peace until all are again united in heaven!
