Irene M. O’Neil

Irene Mae (Bannon) O’Neil, 86, died peacefully at Seasons Hospice the morning of October 28, 2014, from the ravages of senile dementia.

Irene was born in Rochester, MN to Michael and Minnie (Nelson) Bannon on November 9, 1927.  She graduated from Rochester High School in 1945.  Irene and Ed (Michael Edward) O’Neil were married May 19, 1947.  Irene worked as a bookkeeper for many years.  She was a charter member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rochester.  She and her husband made their permanent home on a farm in Rochester Township.  He preceded her in death, passing away September 25, 1998.  She is survived by her sisters, Lorraine Peterson, Joan Szuberski, and Kathleen Hofschulte.

Irene loved working crossword puzzles, reading, listening to music, working on her computer, and sewing.  She and her husband enjoyed traveling around the country in their motor homes.

A funeral service will be at 11:00AM on Friday, October 31, 2014 in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Rev. Mark McNea officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in St. Bridget’s Cemetery.

Her family wishes to thank the care givers of Cottagewood for their tireless, professional, and loving care for the past several years, as well as the staff at Seasons Hospice.  Also, her family wishes to extend its gratitude to those who worked diligently to ensure Irene was able to be cared for with dignity during her final years.
