Ione Beverly Badger Colburn

The Graveside Memorial Service for Ione Beverly Badger Colburn will be at 11:00AM on Friday, August 22, 2014 at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.

Ione Beverly Badger Colburn, age 85, formerly of Rochester, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014 in Los Angeles, California. Ione was born on July 27, 1929 in Rochester, MN. She was one of five children of Robert and Verna Badger. Soon after high school graduation, she took a vacation to Los Angeles, where she was to meet her future husband, Vance Colburn, and the father of her three children. Ione and Vance soon settled and made a life for themselves in the San Fernando Valley, where they lived for the next 66 years, raising their family and running their privately owned business, the “Balboa Lounge”. Although they did divorce, they remained friends until Vance’s passing.

Ione had a genuine love of life and a lifelong interest in travel, new experiences, good food, and good friends. She was always the “life of the party”, eager to pick up a tab, always sharing her riches and fun with her loved ones. Through the last five years of her life, she had many trials to overcome, including two consecutive broken legs, which kept her bed ridden for the past two years of her life. She never lost the twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes, nor her dry sense of humor. With Lucy (her beloved dog) by her side, sharing her bed, she spent those years in the home she so loved, all the while keeping a smile on all the nurses faces, and joy in everyone’s heart. All who worked with her during this time, and there were many, fell under her charm.

She is survived by two of her three children, Sherie Van Sanford of Los Angeles, CA, and Sherlyn Main of Nevada, two grandsons Jerod Armstrong of California and Joshua Armstrong of Nevada and his wife Michelle and their three lovely children, Alexandria, Aden, and Arik Armstrong. She is preceded in death by a son Robert Leo Colburn.
