Barbara E. Bunne

Barbara Bunne faded away from the world on October 8, 2014 at age 79 at the Madonna Towers in Rochester, Minnesota.

Her life will be celebrated on Friday, October 17 at the River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home with a funeral Mass beginning at 11 a.m. with burial at the Grandview Memorial Gardens. On Thursday, visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Barb was born on December 8, 1934 to Max and Ruby Larrabee in Endicott, New York. She grew up on the family farm with her brothers and sisters. She graduated from Vestal High School in 1952, where she was proud to be a cheerleader.

After high school, Barb’s first job was at IBM in Endicott, New York as a secretary. She was transferred to the Rochester branch, where she met the love of her life. Barb married Bernard Bunne on May 24, 1958 in Vestal New York. From the union, the couple had four children.

While her children were growing up, Barb was a stay at home mom but later worked at Donaldson Department Store and Carson Pirie Scott as a salesperson.

With family at the center of her life, she also enjoyed volunteering, crafts, sewing, reading, traveling in her motor home, and watching the Twins and Vikings. Barb was involved in Tops, Homemakers, Red Hat Ladies, Pax Christi Church, Square Dancing, 4-H and History Roundtable.

She was strong-willed, had an infectious laugh, beautiful smile and cooked the best Mickey Mouse pancakes around.

Barb is survived by her children, Kenneth (Anita) of Tallahassee, Florida, Kathleen (John) Reiter of Elgin, Minnesota, Valerie Drey of Herrick, South Dakota, Jonathan (Lisa) of Elkhorn, Wisconsin; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister Maxine Larrabee of Palm Bay, Florida; brother Gary Larrabee of St. Louis, Missouri. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bernie, who passed away on June 5, 2005; her parents; her brother Billy Larrabee, and her sister, Patricia Guiles.

Memorials in Barb’s name are suggested to be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, and to the Madonna Towers memory unit.

Condolences

The family of Barbara E. Bunne has received the following condolences.

To Ken & Anita and the Bunne family,

Our deepest sympathy to you on the loss of your mother.    Even though you knew the end was near--it doesn't ease the pain.  Please know that our thought and prayers are with you.

Your friends and co-workers @Danfoss

So sorry to read of your mother's passing.  I know Alzheimers is a very sad disease and my sympathy is with the family for having to endure it.  My memory of Barb is having lived across the road from her as a teenager and how thoughtful she and Bernie were to my parents, George and Ella Mitchell.  A wonderful lady will certainly be missed.
