Wesley “Wes” Everett Mills

Wesley “Wes” Everett Mills – Rochester

Wes Mills, 73, of Rochester, MN passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, March 02, 2025, at Seasons Hospice after a brave battle with cancer.

Wes, A.K.A. “Geek”, was born January 3, 1952, in Rochester, MN to Arlene (Mills) Peterson. He graduated from Mayo High School in 1970. Wes married Sharon LaVonne (Gottschalk) Postier in 1981 and they made their home in Rochester, MN.

Wes enjoyed his career as a maintenance electrician for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester where he retired in 2019, after a 37-and-a-half-year career to become caregiver to his wife Sharon who was living with dementia. Wes was also a US Navy veteran where he proudly served from 1971-1975 on board the USS O’Callahan, then continued another two years in the Naval Reserves. Wes attended Rochester Votech completing a Business Utility Maintenance Program and earned his Boiler’s License which led to his Mayo Clinic career.

Outside of work, Wes was a lifetime member of the Golden Eagles Motorcycle Club where he actively supported multiple events and successful trail rides. He also enjoyed riding, having owned a long list of motorcycles and dirt bikes. Beyond motorcycles, Wes loved his family and friends. He had a huge heart and at a moments notice would be by any of their sides with help and support. Wes also enjoyed Vans and was a member of Vanners Unlimited.

Wes is survived by his children, daughter Jaime (Brandon) Janzen, stepson Jim (Beth) Postier, and stepdaughters Julie Postier and Janell (Adam) Slifka; seven grandchildren, Andre, Aubrey, Dominic (Justice), Anslee, Ryley, Jayden, and Blake; brother Bruce (Karen) Mills; and cousin and close friend, Jim Ackman. He was proceeded in death by his mother Arlene and stepfather Lowell Peterson; and most recently his wife, Sharon Mills.

A Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025, with a Time of Remembrance at 12:30 p.m. in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester, MN.

In memory of Wes’ laid-back personality, please wear casual clothing; his request being jeans and a band logo t-shirt.

Condolences

The family of Wesley “Wes” Everett Mills has received the following condolences.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Wes’s family. Wes was a fantastic person to work with and always had a positive outlook on life!  I cannot think of a person that is more willing to lend a hand or just to have conversation about music. Wes will be missed both as a friend and a co-worker!  Each time we think about Wes’s comments and humor. May it bring a smile to your face and make you chuckle!  Condolences!  May you find happiness and healing each day!  Thanks Wes for the fun times!!!

Wes was such a wonderful person to work with.  He taught me a lot and was fun to talk with.  My sympathies to his family and friends.

I'm sorry to hear of Geek's (Wes) passing. We did a lot of partying in the 70's and 80's. He was one of our group! He was a sweet heart in every way. And always there if I needed help. I hold his friendship in my heart!  We were supposed to belly up to the bar at north star bar, with our cane's and walkers. May he find our lost buddies in heaven. My deepest condolences to his family. RIP GEEK! ❤️

Wes will be missed; he was always willing to help a fella out, give a smile, and have a good story to go with it. My condolences to the family and all the loved ones left behind. Rob Gehrking

I worked with Sharon and that's how I met Wes. They were so much fun. RIP Wes. So happy Wes and Sharon are together again. Love and peace to the family. Jeanne Vehrenkamp

From our days together at Mayo High School to the many years at Mayo Clinic, Wes always had a smile and a “hello” to his old classmate. To his children, please know that your father will be missed by so many, and please accept my condolences upon the loss of both of your parents. Wes always brightened my day when we would see each other at the subway level of the elevators in the Mayo building—thanks Wes!

Very sorry to hear of Wes passing. I knew Wes for many years through the Golden Eagles Motorcycle club and will miss our many conversations at club meetings and club trail rides. My deepest sympathies to Wes’s family.

I am sad to read this news about Wes.  I knew both him and Sharon.  They were both sweet people, and Wes was a great guy.  My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I was very saddened to read about Wes Mills death.   I was a roommate of his  in 1977.   He truly loved music and enjoyed conversation.  Later on we enjoyed running into each other at MAYO Clinic.  He certainly will be missed.  He was a great guy for sure.

RIP my friend.

A long time neighbor, co-worker and friend. I will miss the days of you riding your motorcycles over to my place just to sit and visit.

Never a cross word or complaint. Just a genuine good person and joy to visit with...

I was saddened to hear about Wes’s passing. My heart aches for you and your family during this difficult time. Wes was a loving father, devoted husband, and a fun friend, and his presence brought light to so many lives.

I pray that God’s love surrounds you, bringing you comfort and strength in the days ahead. May you find peace in the memories you shared and in the hope that Wes’s spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

With heartfelt sympathy,

Steve Roberts
