Sheryl “Sheri” Hayes

Sheryl “Sheri” Hayes, 58, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on June 1st, 2020 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Sheri was born in Winona on September 16th, 1961 to Jim and Sandie Stevens. She spent her childhood in Minnesota City and Winona, graduating from Winona Senior High in 1979.

Sheri married Bill Hanson and they soon divorced. Sheri then married Bryan Milks and they also soon divorced but not before bringing two awesome boys into this world.

Then along came Henry, who had two awesome boys of his own. She married Henry Hayes on May 22nd, 1993. A year later, Henry and Sheri added another awesome boy to the family, thus creating the “mad house 5.”

Sheri worked many jobs in her lifetime but “the best job she ever had, in the worst place she ever worked” was as a mail carrier for the United States Post Office. Her co-workers and customers meant the world to her. They put a smile on her face and a “warm-fuzzy” in her heart.

Sheri was also blessed by MANY kids that lived at or hung out at their house. #family

Sheri enjoyed smiling! Her family was sure to keep that smile on her face!!! She also enjoyed gardening, reading and “projects.” Everybody ran when she said “I’ve been thinking!” And, Sturgis with the Hanson family. Sheri looked forward to their yearly trip to Sturgis so she could relax and unwind… yes, believe it or not, in Sturgis!!!

Sheri is survived by her husband, Henry Hayes of Rochester; sons C J Hayes of Janesville, WI, Jesse Hayes (Meghan Neimon) of Mukwonago, WI, Cassidy (Lindsay) Milks of Leroy, MN, Dallas (Heather) Milks of Rochester, and Zack Hayes of Rochester; grandchildren Jake and Julia Hayes of Janesville, WI and Carter Milks of Rochester; parents Jim and Sandie Stevens of Winona; sister Kristie Stevens (Jeff Grund) of Winona; brother Mark Stevens (Lauri Kaehler) of Rochester; Mother-in-law Maxine Hayes, and “up North” family; brother-in-laws John (Cathy) Hayes, Robb Hayes; nieces and nephews Marshall, Joe, Annie, Harley, Scheppy, Nick (Miranda), Lilly, Jeremy, Jeni (Troy), Greg and Charlie; aunts, uncles, cousins, and her granddogs.

Find a reason to smile EVERY DAY… she did! Make a reason to laugh out loud… she did! Onward and upward!!!

A family funeral service will be held in The River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens. At a later date there will be held a Celebration of Life.

Condolences

The family of Sheryl “Sheri” Hayes has received the following condolences.

I will miss you my funny, crazy, very loving cousin.  I am so glad that we were able to see each other last year after so many years of being apart.  I will remember God's promise of eternal life and know that we will all be together again some day.  Say hello to Grandpa & Grandma Nelton, my parents and Dirk......I love you all, until we meet again.

Love Deeds

So Sorry to hear of Sheri's death.  She was an important part of my life and although we haven't talk in a long time she was always special to me.

Henry and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Sheri was determined and stayed strong to spend as much time with you as she possibly could. We so enjoyed her sunny disposition as our mail carrier. Her smile and laugh was contagious and she will continue to smile down on you as she is gathered into God’s loving arms.

I am so sorry for your loss.  I met Sheri last year during the LiveStrong program at the YMCA.  My daughter and I loved chatting with her each week during the program and listening to her stories.  She will be missed.  Take care.

Henry and Family,

I was sorry to hear about Sheri's passing into eternity.  I enjoyed the times when I watched your dogs and cats during your trips to Sturgis.  I know you will miss her, but hopefully you all will be rejoined in eternity with Jesus.

God bless you,
John Borcherding

Sheri Hayes Condolences.

My name is Dan Gordon.  I was one of the people mentioned in paragraph 5 of the Obit....one of her postal customers that got to know her and had many very nice happy conversations when she delivered my mail.  I was saddened when I found out of her struggles...(from her replacement Postal Carrier), and just today heard again from the same of her passing and funeral.  Sorry I missed sharing her farewell.  I have missed her.

Henry and family,

I extend my sympathy to all of you in the death of Sheri. She was such a nice lady with such a great smile. Glad she had all of you to support her. Remember God is with her and you.

Cass and Lindsay and all of Sheri's family.  I'm so sorry for your loss.  There's no "good" way to lose a parent - it's always difficult.  Try to take time for yourselves and dwell on the good times.  Your family is in my prayers.

We so enjoyed Sheri as our mail person, she was so great and went above and beyond as a mail “lady”.  I treated her with warm banana bread and she always wrote a wonderful thank you and said she couldn’t wait until she got home to have a slice ??❤️
she was very special and we really missed her when her route changed, she was sad about that as well.  She will be missed and God Bless her, she was special.?❤️❤️❤️?

My deepest sympathy to all of you during this very difficult time.  There are no words that help easy your pain and sadness, but we are here for you and keeping you all in our heart .

I am grateful I was able to know Sheri and your family. Her smile will always be remembered.

Much love
