Sharon Kay Loverink

With great sadness the family of Sharon K. Loverink, share that she passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.

Sharon was born on December 27, 1949, in Mapleton, Iowa, to Elmer and Bertha (Treiber) Bertelsen, Sharon grew up in Danbury, Iowa with her six siblings. She attended Charter Oak grade school and St. Mary’s Catholic High School. On April 6, 1968, she married the love of her life, David Loverink, at the First Methodist Church, they created a loving home with their daughter Nancy.

Sharon was a devoted mother who always offered support and wisdom. She prayed for her family daily and loved them unconditionally. The family moved to several towns before settling in Austin, Minnesota, in 1978. For 32 years, Sharon and David managed apartment buildings until their retirement.

Sharon was a dear friend to many. She was quick-witted, had a contagious laugh, and was passionate about her flower garden and crafting. She was a hard worker with a strong faith, sharing God’s love with everyone she met. She cherished her daily conversations with family and friends and had a knack for making friends wherever she went.

Sharon is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Robert) Sappington of Rochester, Minnesota; her cherished grandsons, Benjamin (Jordan) Sappington of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Tyler (Holly) Sappington of Pine Island, Minnesota, and Jacob Sappington of Rochester, Minnesota; and her three great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Leroy, and Rhett. She is also survived by her sister, Betty (Donald) Bond, and her brothers, Terry (Linda) Bertelsen and Larry Bertelsen, many nieces and nephews, and cherished friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David; her parents, Elmer and Bertha; and her siblings, Joann Greene, Kay Willroth, and Gary Bertelsen.

A celebration of life will be held at the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home on November 2, 2024. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Andy Cass.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Mayo Clinic Hospice for their compassionate care of Sharon in her final hours and to Juanita Davis for her devoted love and care.

Sharon’s favorite quote was, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” Her favorite verse was John 14:16
