Paul William Crain

Paul William Crain, 90, of Rochester passed away peacefully on March 17, 2018 at Cottagewood Senior Living.

Paul was born on July 2, 1927 in Rochester to Claude and Marcella (Harrison) Crain. At age 17, he enlisted in the US Navy and served as a baker during WWII. His skill in rolling out cookie dough served him well for many Christmas seasons. Following WWII, he returned to Rochester and graduated from Lourdes High School. He married Gwen Jorgensen on November 24, 1948. After Gwen’s passing in 1966, he married Mary Margaret McKeown on July 29, 1967. Paul had a number of different jobs over the years: barber, ambulance driver, hardware salesman and kitchen cabinet salesman. In the early 1980s, he opened his own business, “Kitchens of Distinction”, in Rochester. During this time, he also developed a passion for computers and spent endless hours developing and later selling computer software for custom kitchen design. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Rochester American Legion, and the VFW. Paul loved milk shakes, chocolate, card games and sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings. He was known for his sense of humor and his hearty laugh.

He is survived by his children, Mary Juliano of Cleveland, Ohio, and Therese (Bill) Shumaker of Rochester; grandchildren, Tricia (Matt) Semling of Houston, MN, Hollie Shumaker of Rochester, Michael Juliano of Cleveland, Ohio, and Leah Shumaker of Rochester; and a sister, Patty (Larry) Dolan of La Crosse, WI.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two wives; two sons, Rick and Craig; his daughter, Kim; two brothers, Jim “J.C.” and Rick; and his sister, Marg (Bud) Schneider.

A memorial service for Paul will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery Rochester.

Condolences

The family of Paul William Crain has received the following condolences.

Dear Mary,

I am so sorry for your loss.  Times like these leave us struggling to find words of comfort that we can give to one another - there are no words to make this grief easier, just know that you are being held in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Therese, Bill and Family~  My deepest sympathy at the passing of your dad, father-in-law, grandpa, and dear friend.  I will always remember his hearty laugh, his kindness, and his generous heart.  Lots of love to you all as you come to grips with this loss.  As a friend once told me, it's always too soon to lose someone we love.  Indeed-- it is always too soon.   Praying for your comfort and peace at this time.

Love,

Jodi Joslin and family

One of the best men I have ever known. I loved him so much. Cottage 3 will never be the same without him. RIP my friend.
