MaKenzie Jo Swanson-Larson

MaKenzie Jo Swanson-Larson

A loved daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend, MaKenzie Jo Swanson-Larson gained her angel wings unexpectedly, at the age of 23, on April 17, 2023. She was born in Rochester, MN on November 9, 1999, to Chad Larson and Melissa Swanson.

She graduated from Stewartville High School in 2018 with Special Honors. She continued her education and attended RCTC where she completed the Automotive Service Technician program in 2020.

She was currently employed by Nissan of Rochester.

MaKenzie was athletic. She started playing sports at a young age starting with full contact football while in elementary school. She played softball in Jr. high and all through high school, however her real passion was soccer, this is where she earned the nickname, Honey Badger. MaKenzie was competitive, she was a force on the field, and she was the one you would hear encouraging her teammates during the game.

She loved to ski and snowboard, especially with her Uncle Brad. She was adventurous, she loved to travel, she loved music and attending concerts. Her great grandmother “GG” was her ride or die. She loved her so fiercely. We will always remember her free spirit and contagious laugh. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

MaKenzie is survived by her mother Melissa Swanson (Jesse Highum), father Chad Larson, her siblings, Michael (Hailey), Chassity, Jacie, and Ryan. Great Grandma Gladys “GG” Loucks, Great Grandma Amy Madura. Grandparents Sue and Jerry Roberts, Terri Larson, Kathy Larson, Grandma Kay Jones, Dorothy Dudley, Dave and Tammy Skyhawk.  Aunts and Uncles Jeremy (Amy) Swanson, Brad Swanson, Donovan Skyhawk, Jimmy (Kelly) Larson, Jason Larson, Nikki (Alex) Larson, Brenda (Andy) Larson, Robin Dudley, several cousins, and countless number of friends.

She is also survived by her adorable pets, Molly (dog), Meah (cat), and Lil Dude (bearded dragon).

She is preceded in death by Grandfathers Bruce Swanson, Richard Larson, and many great-grandparents.

The Memorial Service for MaKenzie will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 12:00pm in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

A financial memorial for MaKenzie has been established at Think Mutual Bank in Rochester.

My husband Paul and I would like to offer our condolences to MaKenzie's family on her passing.  I am a cousin of Suzie's from New Zealand, and I likely saw MaKenzie when she was very young. So I did not have the pleasure of getting to know her when she was older.  It is very hard to lose a loved one who is in the prime of their life.  I know as I lost a sister who was about the same age.  One thing is for sure, she will live on in the memories of her family and friends.

Sheila (Sample - Loucks) Woodgate

I was deeply saddened to hear of MaKenzie’s passing. Mackenzie was a student in my Spanish class at Stewartville High School. She was an amazing young lady, dedicated student, and a friend to so many.

Please accept my deepest condolences. She will be greatly missed.

Dear Family and Friends,

I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of MaKenzie. As her automotive instructor at Rochester Community and Technical College, I had the pleasure of working closely with her and watching her grow as a student and a person. She was a hardworking and determined student who always had a positive attitude and a kind heart.

Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. Losing a loved one is never easy, but please know that MaKenzie made a positive impact on those around her and will be missed by many.

May you find comfort in the memories you shared with her, and may she rest in peace.

Sincerely, Mike Harding
