Lorraine Marie Kach

Lorraine Marie (Warnke) Kach, 87, of Rochester, MN, died Sunday, January 28, 2024.

Lorraine was born August 18, 1936, to Otto and Hilda (Mecklenburg) Warnke in Riceville, Iowa. She attended country school #3, the same school that her father attended. She graduated from Riceville High School in 1955. She worked at Dvorak Grocery in Riceville, Iowa, and Northwestern Bell in Waterloo, Iowa, as a long-distance operator. In April 1957, she began work in Sterile Supply at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN.

On August 23, 1958, she married Leonard Kach at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Davis Corners, Iowa. It was the last wedding at that church before they took it down.

In 1962 they moved back to Iowa where her husband farmed with this brother and father. In 1964, they returned to Rochester, MN. In 1965 she returned to work at St. Marys Hospital having several different jobs.  The last 20 years she worked at Central Service, retiring in March 1999.

She enjoyed country music, “Price is Right,” “Wheel of Fortune,” making crafts, going to shows, and also entering crafts and baked items in the Olmsted County Fair where she received 730 ribbons. She also enjoyed having “open house” in December, where she baked thousands of cookies and many breads and fruitcakes.

Lorraine is survived by a brother, Delbert (Linda) Warnke, nephew Danny (Tamyra) Warnke, niece Darsi Warnke, great nieces, Adanna Warnke, Charity and Tristin Meek; great nephews Colby Warnke, Sean and Brian Grimm and sister-in-law Betty Friedrich.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Kach (February 20, 2017); her parents, Otto and Hilda Warnke and brother-in-law, Don Friedrich.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2024 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2024 in the River Park Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Monday.  Burial will be in Saratoga Cemetery in Saratoga, Iowa.

Condolences

The family of Lorraine Marie Kach has received the following condolences.

it made me very sad to hear of Lorraine‘s passing. I worked with her for several years in central service. She was very kind and very intelligent. I loved to give her a hard time and I still remember her laugh. Rest in peace Lorraine.

Delbert and Linda and family,

I am so sorry I will be unable to attend in person. I am very glad that I got to know her better recently. She is at peace. Love from Linda

Sorry to learn of Lorraine’s passing. I worked with Lorraine in Central Service at St. Mary’s. She was meticulous about her job serving patients. I enjoyed many Christmas open houses and the wonderful treats she and Leonard baked. May you have many happy memories of your time with Lorraine.

Lorraine was simply known as the Cookie Lady in our family and we very much enjoyed attending her Open House and purchasing our holiday goodies.  My condolences to the family.
