Kathryn H. Ahmann

Kathryn H. Ahmann 7/19/1933 – 4/18/2026

Kathryn (Kay) Helen Ahmann passed away peacefully in her home in Billings, Montana on April 18th, 2026. Kay was born on July 19th,1933 in Wabasha County, Minnesota, the fourth of five children to Alfred J. Pretzer and Helen V. (Harnack) Pretzer. She grew up helping her parents on their farm. Upon graduating from Plainview High School in 1951, Kay moved to Rochester, Minnesota where she worked at Olmsted County Bank. On May 25th, 1957, Kay married the love of her life, John L. Ahmann of Eyota, Minnesota. They welcomed their son, Steve in 1961. Kay was a dedicated wife, mother, aunt, and homemaker who valued her family and friends and enjoyed hosting get-togethers with them. Over the years Kay worked part time in financial roles at a variety of local businesses. Kay and John loved to travel, visiting Europe several times, Asia, Mexico and numerous states within the US. After they retired, they would spend winters in the Gulf Shores, Alabama area where they loved walking on the beach, playing cards with friends, and exploring the South. In addition to reading and baking, Kay enjoyed a variety of games with friends and family and was fiercely competitive (and lucky) resulting in her being the preferred partner in games for her grandchildren. Following the passing of John in 2021, Kay moved to Billings, Montana to be closer to family. There, she resided in an independent living apartment at Morning Star Senior Living Center, where she persevered through the social challenges of COVID to become an integral part of her new community. Kay loved her happy hours, live music, and weekly bingo and dominos games with her newfound friends.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Helen Pretzer, husband of 63 yrs, John, brother Robert Pretzer, and sisters VaLor McGowan and Jean Schuchard.

Kay is survived by her son Steve Ahmann and his wife Valerie of Absarokee, Montana, granddaughter Kaley Ahmann of Madison, Wisconsin, grandson Jacob Ahmann, his wife Abby, and their newborn son Miles of Bozeman, Montana, her sister Susan Langdon of Arvada, Colorado and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service in her honor will be held in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, Minnesota on Thursday July 9, 2026, at 1:00PM. Visitation starts at noon.

Memorials can be made in Kay’s honor to the American Diabetes Association or charity of your choice.
