John Michael Carter

John Michael Carter, 77, of Rochester, MN, died Friday, August 30, 2024 at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Marys Campus.

John was born on January 13, 1947, in Rochester, MN to Maynard and Mary (Daly) Carter.  He graduated from Lourdes High School in Rochester in 1965, Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing in Marshalltown, IA in 1970 and Mayo School of Health Related Sciences nurse anesthesia program in 1978.  On April 6, 1974, he married Ann Louise Rudolph at the Immaculate Conception Church in Rice, MN.  The couple lived on the family farm outside of Rochester until 2015 when they moved into the city and moved to the Homestead at Rochester in 2024.  John worked as a CRNA and nursing manager at Mayo Clinic for his entire career, retiring in 2010.

John loved woodworking, fishing, travelling, cooking, restoring his 1935 Ford Model 50 pickup, and being a loving grandfather to his four grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Ann, sister Mary (Carey) Griffin of Rochester, MN, sons Sean (Amy) Carter of Denver, CO, Tim (Jessica) Carter of Kasson, MN, Kevin Carter of Rochester, MN, and grandchildren Erin, Bridget, Ryan and Chase.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the Co-Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Rochester with Rev. Msgr. Gerald Mahon officiating.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester and one hour prior to the service at the co-cathedral on Friday.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

Memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

dear Ann and family .  I was sad to hear of John‘s death; he was such a gentle man.  I would be there if I could. It meant a lot that he came to Ken‘s memorial.  it will be comforting to have your family so close ; let them help you. May God bless you all through this very sad time. 

 Our deepest sympathy to you Ann and your family and to Mary Alice and Carey. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. I loved John as my big brother. We all had so much fun growing up. Sad to read of John’s passing.  He was a classmate and friend for over 50 years and will be missed.  Prayers to you all.
