James “Jim” P. Ryan

James Patrick Ryan, 89 of Wabasha, formerly of Rochester passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017 following an automobile accident. His wife, Beverly is currently recovering at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Jim was born on May 19, 1928 in Tomah, WI to George and Eva (Weidig) Ryan. As a young man, he moved to Rochester where he graduated from Lourdes High School. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific for a year, until the war was over. Upon his return, he married Beverly Haugen and made Rochester their home. Jim worked for the State Hospital and then became a police officer for the city of Rochester. Jim retired as Assistant Chief of Police in 1988. Jim was a devout Catholic who enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing along the Mississippi. He was a member of the Rochester Eagles, the VFW and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly of Wabasha, sons James Jr. of Wabasha, Dan (Judy) of Coon Rapids, MN grandchildren Michael (Ilana) Ryan of Wayne, IL, Kevin (Kimberly) Ryan of Rochester, Callie Ryan of Coon Rapids, and Hannah Ryan of Coon Rapids.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Douglas, Ray and George, sisters Jeanette and Helen, and his children Mark, Murray and Nancy.

The Funeral Mass for Jim will be held on Friday September 22, 2017 at 11:00AM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass in the chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery of Rochester.

Memorials are preferred to St. Felix and St. Agnes Catholic Churches of Wabasha/Kellogg.

So sorry to hear . Please accept  my sincerest sympathy.  Many fond memories of Asst. Chief Ryan. Dad would always take us in to visit him at work when we'd stop in. (My Dad was Sgt. Lloyd Feind) Chief Ryan always took the time to stop and talk to us. Such a kind man, and very devoted to God and family. He will be greatly missed.
