Elizabeth Hawley

Elizabeth Lavine Hawley ceased her lifelong peregrinations in search of spiritual enlightenment and came to rest in Aptos, California on January 29^th, 2023. She had five happy and peaceful years living close to Monterey Bay with her beloved husband Richard Hawley before her death.

Elizabeth was born in Winona, MN on April 28^th, 1954.  She attended John Marshall high school in Rochester, graduating in 1972.  She married Kent Biel and had three children with him.  She spent much of the first part of her adult life raising her children, and most of the second part working as a life coach, offering group and individual guidance online.  She lived in 13 states and at more than 100 addresses before meeting and settling down with her second husband in California in 2017.

She is survived by her three children (Jean Lavigne, Jennifer Bates, and Matt Biel), and seven grandchildren, as well as her mother, Irene Stopyro, and seven siblings (Nancy Leon, Jim Stopyro, Mark Stopyro, Mary McBride, Ed Stopyro, Laura Stopyro and Ann Stopyro).

She was preceded in death by her father (John Stopyro) and her husband (Richard Hawley).

Her lifelong interests included healthy eating, reading and writing, teaching and learning, and the search for God and spiritual meaning.  She had a talent for creating beautiful and peaceful spaces with interior decorating.  She loved her children and grandchildren and would have liked to have had more time with them.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am. Friday, April 14th, 2023 at River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am in the River Park Chapel.
