Dave was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on August 18, 1949, to Roman and Mildred (Robert) Dahmus.  He graduated from Columbus High School in Waterloo and from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  After college Dave spent 3 years in Africa working with the Peace Corp and traveling.  Upon returning home from Africa he was hired by JCPenney catalog in Milwaukee, WI, where he became a computer programmer.  On September 26, 1981, he married Susan Michaelson in Ladysmith, Wisconsin.  In 1997 they moved to Rochester to work for Mayo Clinic in the Information Technology department.  Dave worked as a unit manager and retired from the clinic in November, 2011.

Dave enjoyed traveling, golfing, bowling, playing card games, fishing, hiking, eating pie, napping with Callie the cat, supporting the Green Bay Packers, and spending time with family and friends.

Dave is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sue; his sisters Ann (Larry) Ousterling of Milwaukee, WI, Mary (Matthew) Martens of Fort Dodge, IA, and Rita (Richard) Peltz of Des Moines, IA; his brother Michael (Grace) Dahmus of Davis, CA; his mother-in-law Doris Michaelson, Ladysmith, WI, who loved to make him pies; his sisters-in-law Chris (Chuck) Rognsvoog, Ladysmith, WI, and Carol Michaelson, Hudson, WI; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Condolences

The family of David Anthony Dahmus has received the following condolences.

To Dave's family--I offer heartfelt sympathy and condolences for the untimely loss of husband and father.  I didn't know Dave personally but had the privilege of working with him periodically at Mayo.  He led meetings so skilfully that attending was actually a pleasure!  Dave always showed kindness, patience, respect and humor along with his knowledge and expertise.   I share the sadness of his passing.

Nancy Berkman

Dear Susan,

I am so sorry for your loss.  Words cannot begin to convey my sorrow at hearing of Dave's passing.  I was so sure that he was going to make it through this challenge as he did through all the others in his life.  But he is still with us in our memories of him and his words which made us better human beings.  I will cherish my memories of Dave from Columbus High through UNI and later reunions.

You are not alone in your sorrow,

Gerard Huber

Dear Susan,

David and I were Peace Corps Volunteers together in Liberia. We had some very good times together and I noted his passing with great sorrow. You have my heartfelt condolences.

Sincerely,

Mitch Markowitz

Ann & family,

I'm so sorry for your loss.  I just saw the email announcing the passing and wanted to convey my condolences.  My prayers are with you.

Freda Bell (Washington High School)- Milwaukee, WI

we'll miss you always enjoyed your friendship in high school god bless

Sorry to hear of Dave's passing.  He was a great friend. I remember summer of 67 when Dave, Gerry Kelly and I came to Milwaukee to see Ann.  Sorry Ann if we caused too much trouble.  I got to see him when he was in Milwaukee and at the reunions after that.  We'll all miss him.

To the family of Dave Dahmus,

I was surprised and saddened to see Dave's obituary in the paper last night.  I did not know that he lived in Rochester with his family.  The last time I saw Dave was in a "money bus" in Liberia on our way up country each to our own towns.  I was a Peace Corps Volunteer math teacher in Zowienta, Bong County, Liberia for 4 years and then a contract teacher for the Liberian Ministry of Education for 3 additional years.  I believe Dave was a math teacher also.

The money bus ride took place in January, 1975.  We were returning from a Bong Mine charter flight from Europe where we had spent almost a month.

In sympathy,

Jim Coon

Sue-Konrad and I both want to express our deepest sympathy to you on the loss of your husband and best friend. We both have many fond memories of Dave from the JC Penney days. Konrad golfed with Dave, I played racquetball with him, and he and Guy Schmitz did some remodeling work on our first house in New Berlin (both inside and outside) - and did a wonderful job at that.  Dave was such a wonderful guy, always positive and a great sense of humor.  He will be dearly missed by alot of people. I know you have many wonderful memories that will hopefully bring you some comfort during this very difficult time. Take care.

Konrad and Sue (Edler) Wyrzykowski

I first met Dave while working at JC Penney. We were golf partners for a while and almost won the league championship; third place, due to my poor play on the last round. Over our more than 30 year friendship we had many good times together. Each of us found our true loves and got married. Dave, Sue, Marilynn and I took many vacations together and have many great memories of the happenings. Ask Sue about the Angel Inn or the University Women's Club.

Dave will be missed because he is no longer with us, but the memories he has left behind will be with all of us forever.

Sue, I am so sorry to hear this.  He was a super nice guy and was highly thought of.

Sue and family,

My sincere condolences at the loss of a wonderful man and husband. You are in my prayers.  I enjoyed working with Dave the past 13 years at Mayo as one of his many revenue "customers".   Terri

Sue, family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss. I worked close with David on business and enjoyed that relationship. If i can do anything to helpout in any way - please let me know.  Joe Sutherland

Dave always had a smile on his face that would light up a room! How blessed this world has been - because he was here.

I knew Dave from the Mayo Mens Golf League. He was just a great guy to play golf with, to be around. He had fun, no matter how he played, and that great attitude was a positive influence to everyone that he was around. He'll be missed. Blessings to Sue and the family.  Rich

My thoughts and prayers go out to you at this sad time. Dave will be missed and always remembered~

Selina

With heavy hearts, we extend our deepest condolences to the entire family.  Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you as you remember and celebrate David's life.
